Mindfulness practice 14,
Root to rise.
Get comfortable in a seated position.
Breathe.
With your eyes closed or gaze down,
Focus on your inhales and exhales.
Let go of any distractions that come into your awareness.
Notice your body in your seat.
Focus on your feet.
As you feel your feet on the ground,
Know that the earth contains energy and strength that supports us always.
Now imagine that your body is a tree.
Imagine your feet are the tree's roots.
As you breathe in,
Imagine your feet drawing in the energy and strength from the earth,
As if it were soaking up water on a hot day.
With each breath in,
Take big gulps of air to facilitate the movement of energy up into your feet.
As you exhale,
Breathe out any tension or anxiety that is stored in your body.
On your next inhale,
Allow the energy from the earth to make its way all the way up your legs towards your spinal column.
Again,
Exhale any tension in your body.
Inhale allow the energy to rise along your spine,
Stopping along the way to provide strength to whatever part of your body needs it,
Your pelvis,
Your solar plexus,
Your heart,
Your throat,
Between your eyes.
Allow yourself to rest in that strength for as many breaths as you like.
As the energy from the earth makes its way up to the top of your head,
Exhale and allow the energy to free itself from your body like a geyser,
Releasing into the air above you and beyond.
Imagine you are a spark and the energy is fireworks.
As it is released from your body,
It rises high and floats down into arcs all around you,
As though you were encompassed by positivity and strength.
Inhale that energy in the electric air you have created around you and find stillness in that space.
As you focus now on your feet again,
Notice if they feel heavier,
More connected to the earth.
As you root them into the ground by pressing them down,
Notice that your spine can straighten up a little more,
Making you just a little taller.
In yoga practice,
We call this root to rise.
The more you root down and feel grounded,
The higher you can ascend,
The more expansive you feel,
Ready for anything.
When you're ready,
Take another deep breath and flutter your eyes open.
Reach your body and take a moment to transition your focus back into the room.
Welcome back.
Feel free to journal now about your experience or about any ideas or insights that arose for you.
Let's take a quick break from now.
