Hi and welcome back to the Synergy Sessions.
I'm Georgia Clare and I'm so glad you're here for Episode 2.
Today we're exploring a concept that has the power to transform our relationships,
Our finances and our overall well-being.
The idea that helping others helps us.
When we shift our focus to giving value to others,
Whether in our personal relationships or business dealings,
It creates a ripple effect that comes back to us in incredible ways.
This episode is inspired by Chapter 14 of Wallace D.
Wattles' classic book The Science of Getting Rich,
Where he explains the importance of giving more in-use value than you take in cash value.
I'll break down what that means,
Why it's a game-changer and how you can apply this principle in your own life.
We'll also dive into some actionable steps and close with a short guided visualisation to help you tap into this mindset of giving.
Let's get started.
Helping others isn't just a nice thing to do,
It's backed by science.
Studies show that acts of kindness and generosity activate the brain's reward centres,
Releasing feel-good chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin.
This is often called the helper's high.
More than that,
Helping others reduces stress,
It strengthens social bonds and it even improves physical health.
According to a study published in Psychological Bulletin,
Pro-social behaviour like volunteering or acts of kindness is linked to lower levels of depression and longer life expectancy.
But the benefits don't stop at personal wellbeing.
In the world of business,
Focusing on providing value to others can lead to greater success.
Wattles' principle of giving more in-use value than you take in cash value essentially means ensuring that what you offer is worth more than what the other person pays.
When you approach life and business this way,
You create trust,
Loyalty and abundance.
As Wattles writes,
And because all power is for service,
The more you give,
The more you receive.
So,
Let's look at how we can put this principle into practice starting today.
I have four points here.
The first one is to add value in relationships.
Ask yourself,
How can I make this person's day better?
It could be as simple as listening more attentively,
Offering a kind word or helping solve a problem.
Here's a tip,
Make it a daily habit to think of one small way you can give value to someone in your life.
Number two,
Over deliver in business.
If you're in business,
Look for ways to exceed expectations.
For example,
If you're a freelancer,
Include a little bonus in your deliverables.
If you run a shop,
Add a handwritten thank you note to orders.
This aligns with Wattles' idea of providing more use value than the monetary value received.
Number three,
Volunteer or donate.
Find a cause you're passionate about and get involved.
Volunteering not only helps others,
But also it can expand your network and definitely your sense of purpose.
Plus,
Research shows that regular volunteering boosts happiness and reduces stress.
Number four,
Practice active gratitude.
Reflect on the ways you've been helped by others,
Then pay it forward by helping someone else.
Keep a gratitude to action journal where you list things you're thankful for and actions you'll take to give back.
So I have a few questions for us to think about now.
You might want to write your answers down or just simply think about them.
So I have three questions and the first one is,
Who has added the most value to your life and how can you express your gratitude to them?
Number two,
What's one small way you can add value to someone else's day to day?
I'll let you think about that.
And finally,
Number three,
How can you incorporate giving value into your daily routine,
Both personally and professionally?
What do you think?
So let's close this podcast session with a short guided visualisation to help you embody this mindset of giving.
Now if you're able to,
Find a comfortable position and close your eyes.
I'll just give you a minute to do that.
Take a deep breath in and out.
Imagine a ripple of light starting in your heart and radiating outward.
This light represents the value and kindness you're capable of giving to the world.
See this light touching the people around you,
Your family,
Friends,
Colleagues and even strangers.
Now imagine a specific person in your life who could use some extra kindness or support.
Picture yourself giving them what they need.
Whether it's encouragement,
Help with a task or simply your presence.
Notice how this act of giving makes you feel.
Finally,
Visualise this ripple of giving coming back to you.
See how your kindness inspires others to give,
Creating a cycle of generosity and abundance.
Take one more deep breath,
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes.
Thank you so much for joining me for this episode of the Synergy Sessions.
Today we explored the incredible power of helping others and how it can transform not just their lives,
But ours too.
And I can't wait to share more of these ideas with you.
So just until then,
Just remember,
The more value you give,
The more you grow.
See you soon.
