The author reminisces over a lifetime created and recreated on the basis of societal beliefs and guidelines, trying to please everyone else and burying the self, forgetting about the self. She realizes that the present moment is sacred and not yet lost, that life is not over and it is not too late to change.

My Vision by Georgiana Pethick Feeling my broken heart would take my whole life,

I thought.

Young and already damaged in so many ways.

I didn't know then what so many surely don't know now.

That time is a treacherous frame.

I could have declared my heart stronger,

More adept at handling vicissitudes,

Right then and there.

And my thoughts,

Unconditioned by burdens others saw fit to dump in the hope their load would be lighter,

May have patted me on the back instead and carried me further,

Weightless.

It is surreal how we create our bubbles,

Our cocoons,

Sometimes through our entire lifespan,

Only to turn them into dust when morality slithers,

Jerking us out of numbness.

What if that is what we're meant for?

What if the greatness we call greatness is nothing other than someone else's mirage that resonated stronger in our beaten generational eardrums?

If you had known the power of your thoughts is yours to master and enjoy right from the get-go,

How would your life have been?

My tears spared,

My wrinkles non-existent,

And my students,

Many,

Relishing and spreading happiness as one.

It's not too late.

Each moment is sacred,

Magical in its reality we can or cannot grasp.

My vision.

Your poem moved to me in profound ways. It was a journey through all the question marks I have.
