As you gently close your eyes,
Ready for your mindfulness meditation,
You may start to imagine walking along a beautiful beach,
With white sand and big seashells washed up on the shore.
And now you notice there is a turquoise blue lagoon,
Like a natural rock pool here,
With these calm ocean waters flowing into it.
And so you sit down on a safe,
Smooth rock,
All by yourself,
And dangle your bare feet into this refreshing water.
And suddenly you realize you are not alone here,
In this soothing rock pool,
Because there is a lovely mermaid resting on a rock and smiling at you happily.
And this mermaid is here to do her mindfulness meditation today,
Just like you.
She tells you that she loves being able to focus her mind,
To set herself up for a great day ahead.
Because when she is mindful,
She swims extra fast with the dolphins.
She discovers the most beautiful pearls in the ocean,
And she helps to grow the most colorful coral gardens with her clownfish friends.
This mindful mermaid tells you that the most important thing is to breathe in time with the waves.
As you listen to the sounds of the ocean,
Your breathing starts to match the rhythm of these waves,
Flowing in and out.
In and out.
In and out.
And you breathe deeply,
All the way down to your belly.
The feeling of relaxation washes over you.
A sense of peace to be here in this very moment.
This is what it feels like to be present.
You are now present.
And now the mindful mermaid shares with you the next thing she really likes to do,
Is to listen to the new and different sounds around her.
The noises of being up here on dry land above the waves.
There might be the songs of birds.
Or the breeze.
Or the sounds of humans in the distance.
Or music.
These are all new noises to her,
And you listen carefully now to all of these sounds.
Some near.
And some far away.
As if you were hearing them for the very first time,
Just like a mermaid.
And next,
Your mindful mermaid friend teaches you to feel the energy in your body.
Showing you how to focus your mind on your life force.
And you can now feel this special energy in your body.
From the top of your head,
Down your face,
And neck,
Along your arms and fingers,
And down the middle part of your body.
As you feel this energy in your legs and feet,
You start to feel very lucky being a human.
Because although you don't have a mermaid tail,
You have wonderful legs to walk and run with,
And you can swim with them too,
And flip them about just like a mermaid if you wish.
And lastly,
The mindful mermaid encourages you to focus on how you're feeling in your heart.
You may even wish to place a hand over your heart,
As you breathe deeply here.
There may be many feelings that you are having all at once.

Just notice these feelings in your heart as you breathe and relax.
