Dear Papa (Just Like Me, You're A Human, Too)
by Hà Down
Dear Papa talks about that inner wound created by the not-perfect father figure one has carried as a kid. When the kid grows up, on her healing journey, she now realises that she was caught up in her pain for way too long. She forgets that her parents also suffer. Her parents are also learning to be parents for the first time. You see your parents as human, not warriors of some kind, you allow them to be free from expected social responsibilities & so-called standards. You then allow them to be unwholesome human, making mistakes, and carrying wounds, a lot of them. The song is like a gentle reminder for all of us not to take our parents for granted, not to get stuck on past hurt, to focus on the present moment, and to cherish love, as time is running out one day, our parents will not be around. Dear Papa is also an appreciation for parents and a hopeful song to say that the parent-child relationship is a bond that one can never forget and inter-generational healing is possible.
