Many of us were never taught how to work with difficult emotions. Instead, we either suppress them, avoid them, or get caught in the stories that surround them. In this short video, you'll learn a simple practice for recognising emotions, feeling them directly in the body, and creating a little more space between feeling and thinking. This approach can help you become less reactive and more connected to yourself in everyday life.

Hi,

My name's Joy Love.

And I want to share with you a very simple practice that.

.

.

I feel we all should have been taught but very few of us were.

And that is to consciously meet and feel our emotions.

It's something that I teach.

I call it Meeting the Moment.

And the thing is.

.

.

Most of us in modern society,

We are so externally focused on our to-do list,

Trying to do something,

To be someone,

But the reality is our emotions get activated a multitude of times throughout the day.

Being so externally focused,

There is an unconscious resistance to the energy,

The emotion that's arising in the moment,

Because we've got to get stuff done.

And what we've come to associate as feeling is largely only when our emotions overrun us and we get caught in the busyness in the thinking mind.

That at that point we're trying to fix,

We're trying to solve,

We're trying to understand,

We're blaming others,

When really.

.

.

If we develop a habit.

Bringing our attention inwards.

And just checking in,

Not quite.

How am I feeling?

What am I feeling?

What's the emotion that's alive for me in this moment?

And label it.

Now I understand this may be tricky because we have spent a lifetime in unconscious resistance to feeling and it can be hard to label what the emotion is that you're feeling.

And so we can start by just exploring the qualities of what it is that you're feeling.

Does it feel more expansive or more contracted?

More in the head or more in the heart.

More busy or more still.

And then we just allow it.

Without going into a story around why it's there,

We feel the underlying energy,

The underlying e-motion,

Energy in motion.

And here we're learning to uncouple thinking.

From feeling and just feel the energy.

And what you'll find is moment to moment as you do that you collapse those mental stories and you drop down through into what kind of feels more expansive,

Peaceful,

And kind of like love.

Is meeting the moment,

Learning to consciously feel as a means to connect to a more authentic expression of yourself.
