Hello,

Welcome.

My name is Lew Redman.

Thank you so much for listening.

In a weekly mastermind I'm in,

My friend Darius Bashar said something that struck a chord.

He said,

Dreaming is a skill.

Not the dreaming you do when you are asleep,

Although that too can be a skill.

Instead,

He was referring to the people who let themselves imagine something grand.

People who let themselves dream in a way that others may balk at as unrealistic.

We all learn the skill of dreaming at a young age.

Kids have wild fantasies,

And because they're kids,

We allow them to.

They say,

I want to be an astronaut,

And we say,

If you work hard,

You can.

Now,

Imagine if your spouse said they wanted to become an astronaut.

You may dismiss them or laugh in their face.

Although an astronaut is an extreme example,

It shows that you're not safe for them to dream around.

Or maybe you're the aspiring astronaut,

But it wouldn't feel safe to share that dream with others.

It's not their fault.

At some point,

Kids turn into adults.

And when we're adults,

Dreams are squashed and practicality rules.

In doing so,

We stop practicing dreaming because it seems foolish.

The people in our lives have a certain perception about who we are.

When we do something that contradicts their paradigms,

It makes them uncomfortable,

And they don't know how to respond.

If we tell them we dream about writing a book,

They may fake support but tell others,

Did you hear what she's doing?

Who does she think she is?

I use this book example because I lived it.

Writing and publishing a book was a huge dream.

People laughed at me when they found out.

But still,

I knew my dream and I moved through it and overcame whatever other people thought.

Life is too short not to have dreams.

Luckily,

I had others supporting me.

I was fortunate to be around a group of dreamers where unrealistic was not in their vocabulary.

If you were to share your vision with the people that I started connecting with,

They would show you how you were limiting yourself and encourage you to think bigger.

And Darius' comment made me realize that I learned the skill of dreaming from being around these people.

They showed me that not only dreaming was a skill,

But success in anything is a skill.

It's shifting our mindset,

It's knowing the places to take action and continue to getting back up when we fall.

That's how I was able to stay disciplined and after two years publishing my book,

Find Your Truth.

Once you set a goal beyond your capacity and achieve it,

Your view of what is possible will change.

For me now,

Writing a book doesn't seem that crazy of a wild dream because I've done it already.

Success is not endowed to special people.

It's a skill.

But it's hard to dream and work in a vacuum.

It's easy to get discouraged,

Especially if the people around us don't understand.

And so I want to invite you to continue to nurture your people in your circle,

To know and maybe do an account.

If I were to tell some wild dream to the people closest to me,

How would they respond?

Who would be supportive?

It's okay if you find that no one may respond well or be supportive,

But to find these pockets of people,

Whether it's on the meditation app,

Whether it's on other communities online,

Finding a group of people that will be able to lift you up is so crucial.

Find your place where it is safe to dream so you can build the skill of dreaming.

Because truly,

It is dreamers who change the world.

Although a controversial figure,

It seemed right to share a famous Steve Jobs quote here with the topics that we're talking about today.

Steve Jobs is famous for saying,

Here's to the crazy ones,

The misfits,

The rebels,

The troublemakers,

The round pegs in the square holes,

The ones who see things differently.

They're not found of rules and they have no respect for the status quo.

You can quote them,

Disagree with them,

Glorify or vilify them about the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things.

They push the human race forward.

And while some may see them as the crazy ones,

We see genius because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.

Thank you for listening.

Know that I am rooting for you as you go out and bring your dreams to life,

As you change your world and allow that to ripple out into the wider world.

Deeply appreciate this opportunity to connect at this point and I look forward to connecting with you again very soon.

Before you go,

If this resonated for you and you're trying to figure out how to bring your dreams into the world,

I have a course on Insight Timer called Learn to Do Work You Love and it is all about stirring and stoking this fire so that you can build the skill of dreaming and share your heart and your soul with others.

So go check out that course if you're looking for more support.

That is all friend.

Thank you and we will connect again very soon.
