I'm so excited to share the story of Jim Murphy.
I first heard this story in the summer when I was feeling really stuck and lost.
And when I heard this,
It is a reminder that the difficult things that we're going through are shaping us to be the person that we're meant to be.
Jim Murphy is the author of the book,
Inner Excellence,
And a performance coach to elite athletes.
Athletes find peace of mind during their most pressure-filled moments.
And Jim was having some success in his career.
He wrote this book in 2009 and was getting clients and was doing fairly well.
Fast forward to January 2025,
He was struggling in his business.
He couldn't pay off his credit cards for the first time and his mortgage payment bounced,
But he wasn't worried.
He had just his all to and then he found himself on a january sunday in dallas looking up at one of its skyscrapers and a thought arose Would he have rather owned that skyscraper and the $100 million that it's worth?
Or would he have rather spent time working on his book and have brought that project to life?
And for him,
It was a no-brainer.
He would have taken the book.
Later that afternoon,
Something miraculous would happen that would change his life forever.
He's sitting in his hotel room,
And he gets a text from a friend asking if he's watching the Eagles game.
He turns on the TV to see that star wide receiver A.
J.
Brown is reading on the sidelines his book,
Inner Excellence.
And the media is fascinated by this.
So the picture goes viral.
People are wondering What the heck is an NFL player doing reading on the sidelines of a playoff game?
But the smart people are asking,
Wait a second,
What is this star receiver reading?
Oh,
They're reading Inner Excellence by Jim Murphy.
What is this book?
And sure enough,
That next week,
Because it goes viral,
That book sells 100,
000 copies.
And Jim Murphy does no longer has an issue paying off his credit cards.
What are the chances?
There's a great Joseph Campbell line that when you follow your bliss,
Doors will open where there were not doors before and where there would not be doors for anyone else.
Jim followed his heart and his bliss in writing and working on the thing that he was meant to work on.
And when the timing was right,
Something miraculous happened to support him at the exact moment that he needed it.
The story gets better.
When Jim wrote his first book,
Inner Excellence,
He had a dream of becoming a New York Times bestselling author.
And so he would create reminders on his phone every day to repeat the affirmation,
I am a New York Times bestselling author.
In the month that followed that event,
The book sold 400,
000 copies and Jim Murphy became a New York Times bestselling author.
15 years after.
His book.
Was published.
15 years.
How often do we have a dream and we want it to happen in an instant?
We quit our jobs in March and we expect to be on Oprah in June.
But it doesn't work that way.
The whole purpose of going for our dreams.
And working on things that matter are because of the person that it forces us to become.
Jim said in an interview that if he had gotten that success any sooner,
It would have gone to his head and he was sure that he would be worse off.
He only received it when he became the person who can hold it.
And he received it in a moment of humility.
While he was working on the things that matter.
God will not call you on your journey.
And then leave you stranded.
If you're working on something that your heart is fulfilled in,
That you feel like that's what you're here to be doing,
If you've been put on this path and you've taken risks,
You've taken chances,
And if you're crying to yourself wondering,
Like,
Why is it not happening?
Trust.
That whatever is happening is happening to shape you.
One of my favorite mantras is this is your training.
This is your training.
It's building your capacity.
It's building who you need to become.
So if you're struggling right now,
If you're wondering why things aren't going your way,
This is a moment of surrender.
This is a moment of letting go,
Letting God handle the details that God is not leaving you,
That God is shaping you,
God is training you at all times.
So please,
Please remember that.
Remember that.
Stay in the game.
Keep putting your heart into the work that matters and trust that you will have the right timing.
It might come next year.
It might come in five years.
It might come in 15 years.
In 30 years.
We don't control the timing,
But what we can control is our effort.

The process,
The journey,
To be cliche,
Is the reward.
