By undermining executive function, ADHD potentially impacts almost any area of life that requires coordination, planning, and meeting long-term goals. Emotional dysregulation is part of ADHD itself, and then executive function challenges make managing day-to-day life more stressful. Often described as a condition not of not knowing what to do, but of not doing what you know, it affects self-image and amplifies the voice of the inner critic. Mindfulness and contemplative practice do not replace any part of ADHD care, but can be a foundational step for living more easily with ADHD, increasing resilience, happiness, and facilitating all the other evidence-based care that ADHD generally requires.
