Another version of the "What Animal Am I" kid's bedtime practice. In this meditation, you or your child will engage their sleuthing skills to determine what animal they have become as they relax into a sleepy state. Their room will transform into a warm watery lake where they will seek and find a friend to play with before easily drifting off to sleep.

It's bedtime now.

Time to snuggle into bed and let your eyes softly close.

Let's take three deep breaths together.

Ready?

Good.

Notice how warm and safe and comfortable you feel.

Keeping your eyes closed,

Allow your mind to travel with the sound of my voice.

Beneath you,

Your bed has transformed and you feel weightless,

Wrapped in silky warm water.

Your breathing is relaxed,

Though you sense that you are breathing somewhat differently.

You have the most wonderful sensation of oxygen coming into your body in multiple ways.

You can feel it through your slippery skin.

You can feel it in the back of your throat.

You can feel it in your lungs and the most enjoyable sense of oxygen you feel as it runs through your frilly gills at the sides of your head.

Ahead of you,

You see shafts of light piercing the muddy water.

Today you are going on an adventure to see if you can find some friends to play with.

You have heard that in this lake,

Lake Sochi Myoko was once filled with others of your kind.

Sadly,

Now you often must swim great distances before finding a new friend.

But today you're hopeful.

As you swim,

You relish the feeling of the water caressing your skin.

You push through the water,

Gathering speed,

Using your dorsal fin and keeping your limbs by your sides.

You notice how the light changes as you swim beneath the surface of the water.

Up ahead,

You can see a large ray of sunlight coming from the surface.

These are your favorite rest spots as you can bask in the warmth of the sun.

When you come to a stop in the shaft of light,

Your fore and back limbs come out from your sides,

Steadying you in the water.

You are resting near the surface and you can see the bright blue cloudless sky above you.

You remember that you can't stay in this ray of sunshine too long or you might be seen by a heron.

So you descend to the bottom of a lake and walk along its bottom.

You stretch out the four digits of your forelimbs and the five digits of your hind limbs,

Digging them into the squishy mud at the lake bottom.

The ground is dense with plant life and you start to wonder if you should continue.

Then you see her up ahead,

A friend that looks just like you.

She has a broad smile and friendly wide set eyes.

Her pink gills dance beautifully at the sides of her head.

While your skin is a beautiful brown color with golden flecks,

Her skin is white and she has cute brown freckles around her eyes.

She can sense your eagerness to play and so she touches you and turns away.

You chase after her,

Your heart beating rapidly in your chest.

You catch up and tag her back but you don't want to take the time to turn around so you continue to dart forward.

After each of you have been it a few times,

You both decide that it is time to take a break.

You find a nice spot on the bottom of the lake where the mud is cool and forms a bed for you to relax in.

You start to feel a deep sense of relaxation come over you.

Your tummy and chin are supported by the soft mud beneath you.

The muscles in your limbs and your back and tail and face relax.

Your eyelids become heavy and you gently let them close.

Your breathing becomes soft and deep and effortless.

You are completely comfortable resting alongside your new friend and you let yourself drift off to sleep.

Good night little oxalotl.
