It's bedtime now.
Time to snuggle into bed and let your eyes softly close.
Let's take three deep breaths together.
Ready?
Good.
Notice how warm and safe and comfortable you feel.
Keeping your eyes closed,
Allow your mind to travel with the sound of my voice.
Beneath you,
Your bed has transformed and you awake to find yourself lounging in the foliage of tall tree.
The sunlight hours must have been relatively cool for you to sleep in the open like that.
Usually,
You find a hole in the tree to get out of the warm rays of the sun while you sleep.
But the leaves feel so soft on your back and the branches rock ever so gently to and fro.
As you lay there so relaxed,
You start to pick up a scent on the air with your blunt snout.
Your mouth begins to water as you identify the aroma.
Ripe fruit.
Now the sun has gone down and it is time for you to go exploring.
You lazily blink your very large eyes to help them to adjust to the light of the moon.
Your tiny ears on your tiny head perk to the sounds of the tropical rainforest.
You wonder at the sounds far below you,
But you will probably never discover them as you are an avariel animal residing only in the treetops.
As you lift your body to go and explore,
You find that you have four legs of the same length.
Your small feet are webbed and your claws are curled to gain the best grip on the trees.
Your digits are flat and the soles of your feet form suction cups to the bark of the tree.
As you climb safely down into the canopy,
You notice just how well your dense mottled fur camouflages you,
Blending with a lichen on the trees.
The fruit you smell is off to your right,
So you climb out to the edge of a branch and try to find a landing spot on a neighboring tree.
You are aware that a longer jump will help you to achieve a softer landing.
You spot a tree just the right length away.
Your heart is beating fast as you bend your limbs to prepare to jump.
As you reach out for the tree you hope to land on,
You can feel that your patacium has extended and you are now gliding through the air.
It feels so wonderful to feel the air as it pushes softly onto your body.
The tree is approaching fast and you instinctually use your patacium to break the glide aerodynamically and land gently on the branch you aimed for.
Curious,
You lift your left hand and expect this patacium.
It is a furry membrane that extends along the limbs from your neck to your fingers,
From your fingers to your toes,
And even from your toes to your tail.
Now that you know what you are working with,
You leap again and again,
Feeling the rush of the wind beneath you.
Seeing the leaves and branches of the trees wave as you glide by.
You finally reach the tree you smelled.
Its ripe fruit beckons you and you sink your teeth into its juicy soft skin.
What a lovely treat to end such an invigorating night of gliding.
Before you know it,
The sun will again start to rise,
So you find a comfortable tree and decide that you enjoyed the hammock feeling of the foliage.
So you climb up to the top and snuggle up with the leaves.
You start to feel a deep sense of relaxation come over you.
From the tip of your snout,
Through your tiny head,
Down your back and into your body,
Down your legs and feet and patacium,
All the way to the end of your tail.
You let your eyelids become heavy and gently let them close.
Your breathing becomes deep and soft and effortless.
You are completely comfortable lying in your nest of leaves.
You breathe in the smell of the bark and the air and the earth.
Your breathing becomes soft and deep and effortless.
You are completely comfortable lying in your nest of leaves.
You breathe in the smells of the tropical forest.
The muscles in your body release and you feel fully supported by the branches beneath you.
You are completely relaxed and you let yourself drift off to sleep.
Good night little Sunda Kalugo,
You precious flying lemur.
