Welcome,
And I hope that each one of you will come to find peace within yourself.
Today,
I'm going to talk a little bit about staying true to yourself,
And this meditation is based on a live session I did recently.
You know,
When somebody talks about staying true to yourself or being human,
It sounds lofty,
But it's really about something very grounded,
Remembering who you are when life gets loud.
Staying true to yourself isn't about holding a rigid pose.
It's more like keeping a gentle hand on your own shoulder,
Because life will pull you in different directions,
Expectations,
Obligations,
Other people's moods,
Your own doubts,
And the self can get blurry around the edges.
A few truths tend to show up when people reconnect with themselves.
Your values don't disappear under pressure,
They just get harder to hear.
When you pause,
Even for a breath,
They come back into focus.
Authenticity isn't a performance,
It's the relief of not pretending.
Being true to yourself is less about choosing the right thing,
And more about choosing the real thing.
Being human during life's challenges,
This is the part that people often forget,
That being human is not a flaw in the practice,
It is the practice.
To be human is to feel overwhelmed sometimes,
To make mistakes,
To react before you think,
To wish you'd handled something differently,
And to try again anyway.
When the challenges come,
The mind often says,
I should be stronger than this,
Or I should be better than this.
But the heart says,
I'm doing the best I can with what I have today.
And it's that second voice,
The compassionate one,
Is the one that keeps us whole.
You know,
Being human during difficulty means letting yourself feel without drowning in the feeling,
Letting yourself rest without calling it weakness,
Letting yourself learn without shame,
And letting yourself be imperfect without withdrawing from life.
And where do these two concepts meet?
When you stay true to yourself and allow yourself to be human,
Something powerful happens.
You stop trying to be the polished version of yourself that only exists on your best days,
And you start showing up as a person who is real,
Who is present and willing,
Even when life is messy.
Close your eyes now,
And let's get in touch with our breath.
It doesn't matter if you're sitting,
Standing,
Lying down,
Or kicked back in your favorite recliner,
The only thing that truly matters when you meditate is that you're comfortable and alert.
Now start to settle in,
Notice your breath,
You breathe constantly,
But pay attention to it,
Notice where you feel it,
A cool sensation in your nostrils as the breath flows in,
Or the movement of your chest and belly as the breath flows in and flows out.
Let's scan our body,
Relax your face,
Unfurl your brow and unclench your jaw,
Relax your neck and relax your shoulders,
I raise mine up and let them drop.
Relax your arms and your hands,
Look for any tension in your chest and belly,
Relax your legs and your feet,
And as you begin to relax,
Let's focus even more on our breath.
Our breath is there for us in all moments,
When we're happy,
When we're sad,
And when we're being true to ourselves.
Just allow your body to arrive,
Allow your mind to arrive.
Just allow yourself to be here,
Just as you are,
And notice that quiet rhythm of your breath,
Steady,
Familiar,
And always returning.
There's nothing you need to do right now,
Nothing you need to prove,
Nothing you need to fix,
It's just you breathing,
Just you arriving.
And with each inhale,
Imagine a soft light filling your chest,
And with each exhale imagine that light expanding gently outward,
Moving ever outward until it fills your whole body.
This light is not drastic or intense,
It's just warm,
Steady,
And unmistakably yours.
Just let it illuminate the quiet truth inside you,
The part of you that doesn't rush,
That doesn't compare,
That doesn't apologize for existing.
This is the part of you that knows who you are,
Even when life gets loud.
Now I'm going to pause here for a moment,
While you can just sit and breathe and watch this light expanding to surround you,
And I'll be back in a minute.
Now,
As you're sitting there breathing,
Imagine that you're sitting across from yourself,
The version of you that shows up when no one else is watching.
Notice their posture,
Notice their expression,
Notice the calm,
Unfiltered presence they carry,
And ask this inner self silently,
What do you need from me right now?
Maybe it's rest,
Maybe it's courage,
Maybe it's boundaries,
Maybe it's permission to be imperfect.
Whatever arises,
Welcome it,
Without judgment,
You don't need to solve it,
Just acknowledge it.
Truth begins with honesty.
Now if you will,
Imagine a path stretching out in front of you,
It's simple,
It's quiet,
And it's unmistakably yours,
No one else's footprints are on it,
No expectations,
No comparisons,
Just your direction,
Your pace,
Your rhythm.
Feel your feet on that path,
Feel how natural it is to walk your way,
Not the way others expect.
And if you're willing,
I'd like you to repeat the following positive affirmations,
Either silently or out loud,
And I'll say each one twice.
I return to myself.
I return to myself.
I walk in my truth.
I walk in my truth.
And last one,
I trust my inner compass.
I trust my inner compass.
Let these words settle into the body like roots.
Life will pull you in many directions.
People will have opinions.
Challenges will arise.
You will doubt yourself at times,
And still,
Your truth remains.
Your values remain.
Your inner voice remains.
Staying true to yourself doesn't mean being perfect.
It means being honest.
It means being kind to your own humanity.
It means choosing alignment over approval.
Let your breath remind you,
You are allowed to be fully human.
You are allowed to be whole.
You are allowed to be you.
Now as we near a close,
Take in a deep breath through your nose,
And let it out through your mouth,
Letting out a sigh.
Open your eyes and come back into the room.
Wiggle your fingers and toes and stretch and feel how good it is to be alive.
How good it is to be in this moment.
How good it is to be you.
To be honestly and steadfastly you.
Carry this truth with you.
Not as a task,
But as a home you can return to at any moment.
I truly wish that this has been a beneficial session for each and every one of you.
You know how I love quotes if you listen to my other meditations or my live sessions,
And I have some for you today.
Author Ralph Waldo Emerson said,
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you into something else is the greatest accomplishment.
I agree.
And the Buddha said,
You yourself,
As much as anybody in the entire universe,
Deserve your love and affection.
I want to thank you for investing some of your precious time here with me.
Till next time.
