This guided meditation is inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem, Buddha In Glory. In this session, you are invited to find a sense of peace and light, even in the midst of life's darkest moments. Rilke’s words remind us that, like the Buddha, we can cultivate an inner radiance that remains steady, even when the world around us feels shadowed. This meditation will guide you to connect with that inner light, helping you find strength and serenity within. Through gentle guidance, you'll be encouraged to embrace the stillness and wisdom that lies at the core of your being. As you move through this practice, allow yourself to let go of fear and doubt, drawing instead on the deep well of peace that exists within you. Let Rilke’s poetic inspiration guide you to a place of calm and clarity, where you can navigate the dark times with grace and resilience.

Meditation for dark times,

Embracing our spiritual strength.

Welcome to this meditation,

Designed to help you through dark times.

To do this,

We connect with our inner spiritual strength,

And today we will reflect on the profound words of Rainer Maria Rilke,

My favourite poet,

And find solace and empowerment within.

Find a quiet,

Comfortable place to sit or lie down,

And close your eyes gently and take a deep breath in.

Feel your lungs completely,

And then slowly exhale,

Letting go of any tension or heaviness.

As you settle into this moment,

Feel the connection of your body to the earth beneath you,

And come to your breathing,

Feeling the rise and fall of the abdomen,

Bringing you into the present moment.

Feel yourself becoming more aware,

More grounded,

And more open to the healing energy of this meditation.

Listen to these profound words by Rainer Maria Rilke,

And let them resonate within you.

Buddha in all glory,

Centre of all centres,

Core of all cores,

Almond self-enclosed and growing sweet,

All this universe to the furthest stars,

All beyond them is your flesh,

Your fruit.

Now you feel how nothing clings to you,

Your vast shell reaches into endless space,

And there the rich,

Thick fluids rise and flow,

Illuminated in your infinite peace,

A billion stars go spinning through the night,

Blazing high above your head,

But in you is the presence that will be,

When all the stars are dead.

Visualise yourself as the centre of all centres,

The core of all cores,

Imagine yourself as an almond,

Self-enclosed yet growing sweet within,

And feel the strength and resilience that resides at your core,

Untouched by external circumstances.

Silently say to yourself,

I am the centre of my own strength.

Reflect on the idea that the entire universe to the furthest stars is a part of you.

Feel your connection to the vast expanse of the cosmos.

Visualise your being extending outwards,

Reaching into endless space.

Feel the rich,

Thick fluids of the universe rising and flowing through you,

Nourishing you with infinite peace.

Allow yourself to be illuminated by this infinite peace.

Imagine a billion stars spinning through the night,

Blazing high above your head.

Know that within you is a presence that endures beyond all temporary struggles and challenges.

Silently affirm,

In me is a presence that will be,

When all the stars are dead.

Recognise that your spiritual strength is a vast,

Unending source of power and peace.

No matter how dark the times may seem,

This strength within you remains constant and unwavering.

Realise this strength as a radiant light within your core,

Growing brighter with each breath.

Reflect on the line,

Now you feel how nothing clings to you.

Allow yourself to release any clinging or attachment to the difficulties you are facing.

Imagine them dissolving into the vast expanse of space,

Leaving you free and unburdened.

Simply say to yourself,

I release all that clings to me.

Feel the presence within you,

The core of your being,

Steady and eternal.

This presence is a source of infinite peace and strength,

A guiding light through any darkness.

Allow this presence to fill you completely,

Bringing calm and clarity to your mind and heart.

As we come to the end of this meditation,

Connect with your breathing again,

Anchoring yourself in this feeling of spiritual strength and infinite peace.

When you're ready,

Open your eyes,

Carrying this sense of calm and resilience within you into your day.

And remember Rilke's words,

In you is the presence that will be when all the stars are dead.

May you find comfort and strength in this eternal presence within you.

You are so much more than the matter that surrounds your being.

Have a peaceful and empowered day.

I love this poem. Is this the Stephen Mitchell version? So glad to hear it’s spoken this way. Yes, this is the ultimate meditation really, because this is the truth of who we really are. Also, I love Rilke.

Wonderful. Once again, a powerful and profound practice. I was fascinated by the feeling of being anchored to the present and at the same time of being so "expanded"...Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
