Welcome,
Friends.
In this meditation,
We'll focus on embracing the changes in our body that have happened as we've aged and retired and encourage a sense of peace and appreciation for this stage of our life.
We'll also try to release any comparisons to the past and instead meet ourselves with kindness,
Gratitude,
And compassion for where we are today.
So find a comfortable seat.
Allow your hands to rest gently on your thighs or in your lap.
And if it feels okay,
Close your eyes or lower your gaze.
Take a slow,
Steady breath in and gently release it.
Again,
Breathe in deeply and exhale it out.
Just concentrate for a moment on the natural rhythm of your breath.
Feel the air flowing in through the nose and notice the warmth as it leaves.
Now bring your awareness to your body just as it is today.
Notice how it feels without judgment.
You may sense some stiffness or tension,
Heaviness,
Or maybe you feel softness or ease in some places.
Whatever's present,
Just allow it to be there and observe.
Give yourself permission to stop comparing who you once were or how your body used to feel to now.
Your body has changed and it may take longer to recover and it may carry the marks of effort,
Of time,
Of a life fully lived and that's okay.
Let this truth gently settle.
Your body does not need to be young to be worthy of care,
Respect,
And kindness.
Your body does not need to be young to be worthy of care,
Respect,
And kindness.
Take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and gently let it go.
Now,
Begin to bring a sense of gratitude into your mind and into your heart.
Think of all the years your body has supported you through work,
Through movement,
Through challenges,
And just through ordinary days.
And allow that gratitude to spread like warmth through your chest,
Your shoulders,
Your arms.
Allow it to spread down your hips,
Your lower back,
Your legs.
Just being here in this phase of life is enough.
Retirement is not an ending,
It's a transition.
It's a new rhythm,
A new relationship with your time and your energy and your body.
See if you can welcome this phase with openness and gratitude.
Your body may move differently now.
It may ask for more rest,
More patience,
And more care.
You can meet it here with gentleness instead of frustration.
Breathe in acceptance and breathe out any lingering tension.
Allow yourself to feel comfortable in your body as it is today,
Not as it was not as you think it should be,
But as it is.
There's wisdom here.
There's dignity here.
There's still life,
Still possibility,
Still presence.
For the next few moments,
Silently repeat this mantra until you hear the sound of a bell.
I am grateful for this body,
This mind,
This soul.
I am grateful for this body,
This mind,
This soul.
I am grateful for this body,
This mind,
This soul.
Friends,
Take a deep breath in and softly release it.
Bring some small movements back into your fingers and your toes.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes or lift your gaze.
And as you return to the space around you,
Carry this with you,
A sense of appreciation and gratitude for your body just as it is,
And a quiet acceptance of this new chapter in your life.
You're allowed to be here just as you are.
Namaste.
