Welcome to Living a Life of Gratitude.

I'm Sarah Wiseman.

What is your calling?

When we arrive into this world,

We already know our calling.

When I was eight,

I wanted to be a saint.

Not for the cloister,

Not for the reverence,

Certainly not for the prostration,

Certainly not for the prostrations,

Mean selves,

Self-flagellation,

Or any of the other methods saints in the middle centuries used to open their consciousness.

Nor was I interested in sainthood for the creation of miracles,

The welling of springs whenever I walked,

Or the spontaneous healings of masses who followed behind me.

No,

I wanted to be a saint because I wanted the pure understanding of God.

However,

Since the job openings for saints were pretty rare at the time,

I went on to other things.

I holed up in my room,

Reading,

Writing,

Working on the vast array of journals,

Typewriters,

And tape recorders that seemed to fill my bedroom of their own accord.

Even from the earliest days,

I was obsessed with getting it down,

With putting my thoughts on paper,

On tape,

On record in the clearest way I could.

It's all gone now,

Like a prayer on the wind.

The technology I used back then no longer exists,

Or at least I don't have it anymore.

The tape recorder,

The dictaphone,

The manual typewriter,

The copious journals kept daily from third grade are now gone.

And thus,

Instead of being solely recorded,

The thoughts have seeped into my bones from the time I was a child.

The divine did not call me once,

But a million times,

A billion,

Until I finally answered.

When I consider every single job I had,

And every single skill I learned,

It has all brought me incrementally to exactly where I am today,

So that I have capacity and ability to do the tasks that are my life's calling.

It was all set up from the beginning,

Every single part of it.

My calling as a writer,

A teacher,

Is my unique path.

It's no better or worse than anyone else's path.

It's my job description,

My life purpose,

What I'm here to do.

You're here for your calling,

And you have been destined for this path since you were born.

Every step of your life,

Every lesson and skill you have learned,

Has been created so that you may move forward in this exact moment.

Trust this.

If you don't know your life's calling,

Close your eyes.

Think back to how you spent your time when you were 8,

10,

12.

What did you love without reason?

What did you aspire to then?

Now,

Allowing yourself to relax.

Now,

Allow yourself to relax in the certainty that you are perfectly on your path,

Moving easily toward the clear understanding of your purpose.

Give thanks to your inner awareness for helping you see what you already know.
