Transcript

Hello and welcome to this sleep story called The Caterpillar Who Couldn't Sleep.

I invite you to lie back and get comfy.

As we prepare for a deep restorative night sleep.

That hopefully comes with ease.

In a quiet,

Moonlit garden,

Beneath the shelter of a wide green leaf.

Lived a small caterpillar named Moss.

Moss was the colour of fresh spring leaves.

With tiny feet.

That carried him gently along winding stems.

One.

To.

3 and every night.

As the sky deepened into shades of indigo.

And silver.

The garden would fall asleep.

The crickets sang their slow,

Steady lullaby.

The flowers closed their petals.

The wind softened into a whisper.

But Moss could not sleep.

He curled himself into a little spiral.

Then stretched out again.

Then curled once more.

He wiggled this way and that way.

But sleep never came.

Oh no,

Moss sighed softly.

Looking up at the glowing moon.

Why does sleep forget me?

So one night,

When the garden was quiet and still.

Moss decided to go on a journey.

To ask the garden how to rest.

First,

He met a snail.

Slowly gliding across a smooth stone.

Excuse me.

Moss whispered.

But how do you fall asleep?

The snail smiled slowly.

I do everything.

Slowly.

He said.

So slowly.

That my body remembers how to rest.

Moss nodded.

So he tried.

He moved slower than he ever had before.

One small step.

Then another.

Slowing his body.

Softening his movement.

But inside.

He still felt a weight.

Thank you,

Moss said kindly.

But I think I need something more.

Moss encountered a flicker of light dancing in the air.

Fireflies.

Excuse me.

He asked gently.

But how do you fall asleep?

The fireflies glowed softly and curiously.

We follow a rhythm,

They said.

Light and dark.

Shine and soften.

Moss watched them closely.

Glow.

Rest.

Glow.

Rest.

You need to find your rhythm.

The firefly said.

So he tried himself.

Breathing in.

Breathing out.

Finding a rhythm.

Within himself.

But still.

Moss could not sleep.

A little further along.

Moss came to an old steady oak tree.

Its trunk was wide.

Its branches reaching to the stars.

Its roots gnarled and deep in the earth.

Moss whispered.

But how do you sleep?

The tree did not answer with words.

He simply stood.

Grounded.

Quiet.

Present.

Moss watched and waited.

And slowly.

He began to notice something.

The tree wasn't trying to sleep.

It wasn't forcing anything.

It was simply resting.

Feeling the earth beneath it.

Holding steady in the night.

Allowing the darkness to be what it was.

And something inside moss soften.

He breathed.

Maybe I don't need to try so hard.

So Moss made his way back to his leaf.

This time.

He didn't curl up so tightly.

He didn't force his body to be still.

He found his own rhythm with his breaths.

And he simply.

.

.

Rested.

He felt the leaf beneath him.

Gentle,

Steady and safe.

He felt the cool night airbrush against him.

Soft and calm.

He listened to the cricket.

The whisper of the wind.

The rhythm.

Of the garden.

And instead of trying to fall asleep,

He allowed himself to just be.

His little body softened.

His breath slowed.

His thoughts drifted.

And slowly.

Quietly.

Sleep found him.

That night Moss slept deeply.

Deeper than he ever had before.

And as he rested,

Something within him began to change.

Not in a loud or sudden way.

But gently.

Like the turning of seasons.

Like the quiet work of roots beneath the soil.

And though Moss did not yet understand it.

He was becoming something new.

And if you ever find yourself awake at night.

Like moss.

You don't need to force sleep to come.

You can simply become present.

Feel your body.

Find your rhythm.

And notice the quiet around you.

And trust.

That sleep will find you.

In its own time.
