Sometimes,
There are so many variables and uncertainties surrounding us that it can be hard to make any kind of decision.
Sometimes,
We might not have all the facts available.
We can feel lost and all out at sea if we don't have a plan,
And we are not working towards any kind of goal.
This can be somewhat unsettling,
If not downright discombobulating.
We can end up at this place when one project finishes and the next one is yet to start.
Perhaps the work is largely done,
But its consequences have not yet unfolded.
This sometimes happens when the old plan has run its course and the new one has not yet revealed itself.
If this ever happens to you,
There's a simple way to navigate the unnavigable,
And a way of moving forward without forcing a fixed outcome.
A way of being open,
Alert and receptive,
While still feeling anchored and calm.
I call this creating a no-plan plan.
So for the next few moments,
And if you can,
The day that follows,
And the day that follows that,
Allow yourself to do nothing.
Let's start by taking a slow,
Easy breath in,
And let it go with a long sigh.
Repeat that pattern,
Breathing in gently and naturally,
And breathing out,
Letting your shoulders soften.
With each in-breath,
Imagine you're taking in nourishment,
And with each out-breath imagine you are releasing the need to have everything worked out right now.
You do not need all the answers in this moment.
You do not need to see the whole path.
You simply need to become present enough to sense the very next step.
Now imagine yourself standing at a shore,
Looking out over a wide and open sea.
The waters in front of you may seem vast,
Perhaps even uncertain.
No grasp of what is over the horizon.
But beneath you is solid ground,
And above you is open sky.
Feel the steadiness below,
And feel the spaciousness above.
And in between the two,
Feel yourself becoming quietly balanced,
Coming back to the in-breath and the out-breath.
So a no-plan plan is not aimlessness.
It is not giving up.
It is not drifting without awareness.
It is choosing to stay present,
Instead of becoming trapped by premature certainty.
It allows life to reveal itself in good time.
So now bring to mind something in your life that feels unresolved.
There is no need to analyse it.
Just let it rest lightly in your awareness.
And then ask very softly within,
What is mine to know now?
And wait.
Not for a grim answer.
Not for a five-year strategy.
Not for a feeling,
A nudge,
A whisper of direction.
Perhaps the next step is simply to pause.
Perhaps it is to ask for help.
Perhaps it is to trust.
Perhaps it is simply to do one small thing lightly and well.
So let that be enough.
In this way,
You can now move without forcing.
You can progress without pushing.
You can make space for a deeper intelligence to meet you halfway.
And return again to the rhythm of your breathing.
And let this thought settle within you.
There is no need for a perfect plan.
All that is needed is presence,
Patience.
And permission to take the next gentle step.
And remember that a no-plan plan is better than no plan at all.
Www.
Mooji.
