Many of us find change difficult. We find it hard to accept loss as we go through life. But change is everywhere. in fact, the only thing that we can be certain of is that there is constant change. So, we have to learn to live with this reality. if we can learn to accept that things change and that people are lost, we will find it easier to live in the Now. Living in the now we will have a greater sense of gratitude and wonder at all that we have and why we have it still.

Dear friends,

Some time ago I was reflecting on impermanence and the importance of living in the now and I put together some words which I have only come across again in the last number of days and I thought it might be useful to share them with you.

The title of this reflection is The Helper.

He in a hurry,

She a little feeble.

So he offered to help her with her suitcase,

Hoping she might say I'm fine thanks.

She left out the I'm fine.

So they set off,

A short journey but into a new reality,

An ultimate journey.

She the nun,

The spiritual guide,

The burdened one,

He the helper,

The weightlifter.

She admitted a sense of dread,

Losing her sight,

Afraid of the future,

Fearing to let go.

He searches unexplored depths,

Fishing in the mud of the past to find words to ease her pain,

To bring acceptance,

Seeking words to lift the weight of one who fears inevitable loss.

Teach her,

Teach me,

To know the difference between what I have and what I can,

What I must do without,

Between what I expect and what I need,

Between what has been mine and what must be mine no longer.

Help me to loosen my grip,

My hold on all that I love and all who love me,

On what I am and what I hoped would be.

Help me to accept reality,

Emptiness as well as fullness,

Absence as well as togetherness,

In time aloneness,

Realising that hour by hour,

Day by day,

Cell by very cell,

I am being separated,

Must be separated,

From all I have,

All I love,

All I depend upon,

Depended upon,

Hoped for,

Believed in.

Remind me of the day when I must embrace reality alone,

Empty,

Naked.

Let me love the now,

Walk its path,

Grow comfortable in its shoes,

Breathe its fresh air,

Feel the warmth of its cloak around me,

Let me welcome my destiny as the ultimate friend it is.

Namaste.

Wow Tony,!! Beautiful, powerfully gentle I love how the image of the two travellers at the beginning anchor the rest of the poem in a human reality

Wonderful reflecton, Tony, thank you, will have to listen to it again.πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ» Just arrived in Belgium, have not seen my family for 3 years, excited about the reunion tomorrow. Yet yesterday, suddenly overcome with grief: I am here to explore new possibilities to live, this is a beginning of a life that my deceased husband will never be part of, at least not physically, it is a new aspect of the grief that I never realized before. It was/is intense. Grief and happiness all together, the impermanence of everythingβ€¦πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒŸπŸ™πŸ»πŸ¦‹πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒŸπŸ™πŸ»

I relate with the dread of letting go. And I got tearful at your line about cell by cell disengaging from those I love. I need the acceptance of both absence and presence. I’m starting to shift my focus from fear of the unknown to anticipation of discovering more Mystery. Thank you for this poem/lesson, Tony.
