A meditation on the gift of our hands.
Sometimes the most important gifts in our lives are so obvious that they are simply overlooked.
This meditation will remedy one such slight.
In our time together,
We will honor the gift of our hands.
As we begin,
Whether sitting or lying down,
Gently close your eyes.
Breathe slow and easy.
And then open your eyes and allow your gaze to rest on the palms of your hands.
As you observe the physicality of your hands,
Turn them over and gaze upon the front side.
Now move your fingers and thumbs.
Gently bend,
Wiggle and clench.
Create a fist.
Feel the energy that flows through your hands.
Sense any soreness or pain and send a bit of intention to those places.
An intention of gratitude and love for all your hands have done for you.
Breathe deeply,
Allowing any tension to dissolve.
And imagine the discomfort diminishing as well.
And now,
Gazing again upon the open palms,
Begin to note all the ways your hands get you through your day.
Be concrete in your thoughts.
They allow me to.
.
.
And perhaps here you include,
Prepare a meal.
Feed myself.
Bathe myself.
Dress myself.
Drive myself.
Do my job.
And most likely so many more.
Take these next few breaths to feel a sense of gratitude for the gift of your hands.
And now,
Let us focus on other ways our hands impact not only our lives,
But the lives of others.
Here we begin to see the power that resides in our hands,
The ability to lift up or tear down.
The responsibility of touch.
Easy and light.
Heavy or harsh.
Rough or gentle.
Ask how you are using your hands when it comes to these choices.
If you recognize you have not been as caring and loving as you might,
Take the next few breaths to offer up this realization.
Realize any guilt or concern and vow to change.
If you observe your actions are of the healing kind,
Take a few breaths to acknowledge and honor this gift to others.
Importantly,
If you have lost any parts of your hands or the use of your hands,
Please note your mind may still imagine them whole.
So you especially please take this time to envision the energy imprint of wholeness and honor this truth.
There may be a sense of loss or grief.
Honor this as well.
Do not try to ignore,
But also do not allow yourself to stay too long in that place.
Breathe and release.
There is no doubt this meditation on the gift of our hands has given each of us a fresh appreciation of our hands.
And so before we complete this time,
Let us once again allow our gaze to rest upon our hands.
Breathing gently and easily,
Let us smile as we fully embrace the gift of our hands.
Placing our hands in prayer position,
Palms together.
Let us bow deeply in a gesture of respect.
Respect for our hands.
Respect for this time together.
And respect for the gift of this amazing life.
As this meditation ends,
Let each of us agree to carry greater awareness and appreciation for our hands with us every single day.
And together,
Let us say,
Amen.
Amen.
Amen.
