This is a walking practice, focusing on the journey women take as they provide care and nurturing to others. Often, women forget to take time to care for themselves. This practice offers the opportunity to recognize the steps we take and the feet that move us forward. There is an awareness of the presence of God in our journey as we walk and serve as a reminder to call upon God to sustain us with each step.

A walking,

Meditation on the wonder of our feet and where they have carried us on our life's journey.

In the spirit of women who journey,

As our mothers and their mothers did before them,

Let us begin our walk,

Simply placing one foot in front of the other,

One faithful and hopeful step at a time,

One empty and despairing step at a time,

Knowing that each step is pleasing to our God.

As your foot touches the ground,

Open your heart to remember all those steps you have taken in your life towards those you love.

Endless,

Countless steps of service and caretaking,

Of being there for husband,

Child,

Parent,

Significant other,

Of being there for friends and co-workers,

Of being of service in your church,

Place of worship and in your community.

As you walk,

Let your heart be grateful for these amazing feet,

For their ability to carry you forward when your will and your spirit were weak,

When you were tired and weary to the bone.

Take a moment to reflect on how you have measured those steps.

Have you been critical and harsh with yourself?

Have you judged yourself a failure,

A fool,

Or a coward?

Have you attempted to direct others' paths,

Telling them where to walk,

Rather than trust that God would give them the wisdom and courage they needed to create their own path?

Let each step you now take be a step of awareness,

Healing,

Or forgiveness for those times when you stepped out in anger,

Stepped on another's toes,

Turned away from someone in need,

Or ignored your own health and well-being.

With each step forward,

Recall too those times you chose to turn back,

To trust in what was comfortable and familiar,

Knowing that God was waiting there to take you in or care for you.

Let yourself be present to any regrets or loss you might feel as you remember these crossroads of potential and promise.

Let yourself be present to the wisdom of making any decision that felt appropriate at the time.

With each slow,

Measured step,

Let your feet speak to you of your life.

Rather moving forward,

Gathering strength and courage with each step,

Able to claim the unknown,

Able to trust that God would be there for you,

To care for you and sustain you.

Let yourself be present to any current situations in your life that may be calling you to a deeper trust,

A closer walk with God.

Let yourself become aware of any fears,

Worries,

Or other emotions associated with this place within you.

And as you walk,

Tell God how you feel.

With each step,

Let yourself trust that your journey will be guided and blessed.

Let your feet speak to your heart of dreams still to come,

Of creativity,

Of joy and wonder,

Of giving birth to a future of blessings and abundance.

Consider with each step those specific needs you have to sustain you on this journey and with each step forward,

Ask God to provide for your every need.

Consider those who walk with you,

Those who may have the ability to help sustain you as you make your way in the world.

Step by step,

Consider all those people God has placed on your path.

And as you walk,

Speak in silence any words of thanksgiving that are in your heart.

This now concludes our walking meditation.

Feel free to continue to walk on whatever path you find yourself or simply allow yourself to stop and to relax and breathe into any insights,

Any wisdom that you may have experienced in this time.

And once again,

Take a final moment to say thank you to these amazing feet that have carried you on your life's journey.

God bless!

God bless!
