When thoughts feel like a top spinning out of control, this 5-minute practice helps them slow—not by force, but by gentle return. We’ll use touch and breath to ‘become the ground’ for your mind’s motion, so overwhelm can complete its natural cycle.

Hello,

This is Zia.

When your mind spins with too much,

Let's help it slow,

Not by force,

But by gentle return.

You can begin by crossing one arm over your chest,

Holding your opposite forearm.

Give it a gentle squeeze,

Like you're steadying a part of yourself.

Breathe in,

And as you exhale,

Soften your grip just slightly.

Again,

Hold,

Squeeze gently,

And then release.

This is your body's way of saying,

I can be here,

Even in the spin.

Now,

Place one hand on your heart.

This is the solid ground,

The place where motion comes to rest.

If your thoughts were a spinning top,

How wildly is it whirling now?

No need to judge,

Just notice.

Your hand says,

The ground is ready when you are.

Keep noticing the speed and the energy of your spinning thoughts.

Observe them,

At first frantic,

A blur of sound and motion.

Then slowly,

As the spin widens,

The wobbles soften.

Watch as it begins to tilt,

Circling slower,

Slower,

Until the tip finally meets the ground.

Your waiting hand,

And that last bit of energy dissolves into quiet as the top comes to rest.

Not collapsed,

Just completed.

Your nervous system is learning.

Rest is the natural end of motion.

Each time your forearm steadies,

Each exhale that lengthens,

You're rewiring the old fear that said,

If I stop,

I'll fail.

The top chooses the ground,

The ground welcomes the top.

Let your hands rest now,

But keep this knowing.

Overwhelm may spin again,

And you'll remember,

Even the wildest motion finds its way home.
