Welcome,
Take a moment to get comfortable.
There's nowhere else that you need to be and nothing else that you need to accomplish in this moment.
Just let your body settle.
Today I want to offer you something that might feel a little unusual.
Permission to be average.
Not exceptional,
Not optimized,
Not impressively productive or endlessly patient or wildly self-aware.
Just average.
Most of us don't wake up aiming to be average.
We aim to do well,
To handle things gracefully,
To improve,
To grow,
To show up fully,
To exceed expectations.
And while there's nothing wrong with wanting to live well,
The quiet pressure to be more than human can become really heavy.
It can live in the shoulders or the jaw,
In the constant scanning of what still needs to be done.
So just notice for a moment,
What do you expect from yourself today?
Without judging it,
Without trying to change it,
Just notice it.
Do you expect yourself to be especially patient,
Especially productive?
Especially kind,
Evolved or disciplined?
Now gently consider something different.
What if you didn't have to be exceptional today?
What if average was enough?
See if your body responds to that idea at all.
Maybe there's the slightest softening or maybe there's resistance.
Both are okay.
We've been taught that average means mediocre,
Ordinary,
Not good enough.
But average can also mean steady,
Balanced,
And even most importantly,
Sustainable.
Average can mean you're not in crisis.
You're not overextending.
You're not running on adrenaline.
Average can mean regulated.
Imagine moving through your day with the goal of being appropriately human.
Not superhuman.
Not failing.
Just human.
What would that change?
Would your shoulders drop a little?
Would your breathing slow down?
Would your to-do list lose some of its urgency?
So often we don't realize how much we're trying to outperform our own humanity.
Trying to be better than tired,
Better than distracted,
Better than needing rest,
Better than being ordinary.
But being ordinary is not a flaw.
You're allowed to have what you need.
An average day,
An average mood,
Average energy,
Average motivation.
You're allowed to do a few things well and a few things imperfectly.
You are allowed not to shine.
And here's something really important.
Average,
In most cases,
Is actually quite good.
Most people who think they're just average are kind,
Responsible,
Thoughtful,
Trying their best.
And that's not mediocre.
That's meaningful.
I want you to notice where you might be holding yourself to a higher standard than you would ever hold someone you love.
Would you demand exceptional performance from a friend who you knew was tired?
Would you insist that they optimize every hour?
Or would you tell them it's okay?
Just to have a normal day.
See if you can offer yourself that same kindness now.
It's okay to have a normal day.
It's okay to be steady instead of spectacular.
It's okay to let some things be good enough.
Take a slow breath in,
And a long,
Gentle breath out.
Not forcing,
Just softening.
If there's a part of you that worries that being average means falling behind or something else negative,
See if you can reassure it.
That part of you probably learned this a long time ago and expects an awful lot out of you.
Being average doesn't mean giving up.
It means pacing yourself.
It means sustainability.
It means your nervous system doesn't have to live in overdrive.
Imagine what it would feel like to be average.
What would it feel like to move through today without trying to impress anyone?
Without trying to prove anything.
Without trying to get ahead of every possible outcome.
Just meeting the moments as they come.
Responding as best you can.
And letting that be enough.
There's a quiet dignity in being ordinary.
In washing the dishes,
Or just setting them down in the sink.
In answering emails,
In sitting with your thoughts,
In showing up in small,
Consistent ways.
You do not have to be extraordinary to matter.
Feel the surface beneath you.
Let it hold you for a moment.
You don't have to hold everything up.
Not right now.
Take another slow breath in.
And a long,
Easy breath out.
Let your jaw soften.
Let your shoulders settle.
Let your body feel what it's like to not strive for just a moment.
Today,
I give you permission to be beautifully average.
Appropriately human.
Steady.
Enough.
And if you forget,
You can come back to this simple permission.
I don't have to be exceptional today.
I can just be.
Let that land gently.
And when you're ready,
Begin to bring a little awareness back into your space.
Carrying this softer expectation with you.
Not less capable.
Not less worthy.
Just less pressured.
And that might be you.
Exactly what your nervous system needs.
Thank you so much for listening today.
