So you find that comfortable position now,
A place that you can settle for a while,
Paying attention firstly outwards to those sounds that surround you,
Within your room,
Outside.
Just let them be,
Just accept them,
Without judgement as part of your here and now.
As you turn your attention inwards,
Noticing your closed eyelids and how they act as a veil to draw your attention further inwards,
Towards your own rhythms,
Your comfortable face and how the skin just softens over your cheekbones and jaw,
Your lips easy,
With no job to do,
No smile,
No conversation,
Just resting,
Perhaps for the first time today.
Focusing now on your chest,
On the rise and the fall of your chest as it draws in for you,
That relentless fuel,
That capacity,
That breath and how every breath in pulls into your body all that it needs and now noticing that outward breath,
That exhalation pushing away all that you're done with,
All that your body has finished with,
Breathing away all that which is no longer helpful or useful,
Just letting it go,
Just letting your breathing be,
The rhythm of you,
Just right for now.
As your attention flows downwards to your resting limbs,
To your arms,
Your heavy arms,
To the tips of your fingers,
Your legs,
Your resting legs and down to the very tips of your toes and how that resting heaviness feels just right for now,
Your lower back as it meets the surface beneath you and how beautifully supported you feel,
No longer having to carry your body upright,
Just releasing the weight of the day by allowing your entire being to drop downwards onto that surface beneath you,
A welcome heaviness that is so very well earned,
So very comfortable and how you're able to turn your attention now to your beating heart,
To your pulse maybe,
Sensing if you could what this rhythm may be,
How curious you may be in your ability to lower your heart rate,
To lower your pulse just a touch,
To find that easy resting rhythm,
To find it in your own time so that your body just ticks along nicely like a well-maintained machine all by itself with no action required on your part,
Just ticking along effortlessly and how welcome it feels to just trust in your body's own ability now to rest,
To replenish,
To repair,
To heal.
As in this resting state you activate that parasympathetic branch of your nervous system,
The mechanism for your body's restoration now and how in this peaceful state you may find your mind wandering,
Thoughts like butterflies darting in,
Darting out and just let them dart in and dart out without making any judgment because this is how a body feels when it's at rest,
This is how a mind behaves when it's at rest too,
Just letting those butterflies come and go,
Neurons firing,
Chemical reactions that's all as you switch from one alert and wakeful state to one of peaceful restorative rest and just welcoming that,
Just letting it happen and knowing without doubt that this practice benefits both body and mind as the two work in wonderful unison with each other for your benefit,
For your well-being and I wonder if you can just allow these feelings and sensations to continue,
To deepen even as you allow yourself to simply travel across time and across space and to feel that your body and mind has no boundaries,
No boundaries at all,
That you can travel across space and across time and arrive somewhere,
Somewhere else,
Some place,
Perhaps you find yourself totally at ease and this place can of course be a memory,
A place you visited perhaps,
Once or even many times before,
A cherished place,
A special memory,
A place where you have felt totally at ease or perhaps this is a place of your conjuring your imagination,
Finding yourself here for the very first time,
Just allowing that place to spontaneously come into your mind without any judgment at all as you allow that place to arrive,
Perhaps notice who else is there with you or are you alone,
Perhaps notice how you can enhance that experience of that place,
If you could truly step into the vision of it right now,
How might it feel,
How might it smell,
How would it sound if you could step into that vision of that place right now,
How time simply elongates,
Shortens and lengthens whilst you're there,
In that cherished place,
How every second may turn into minutes and minutes may turn into hours whilst you're here,
With every passing second that you spend here you take from this experience something you really need right now,
Perhaps this is something you need to see right now,
Perhaps you'll see that as a vision of something important from your past,
Or something you desire,
With every passing second you take something you really need to hear right now,
Perhaps you'll notice that as a voice telling you what you need to hear right now,
Do you recognise that voice?
With every passing second that you spend here you experience something you need to feel right now,
Maybe you'll recognise that as a familiar touch of someone who is dear to you,
Or perhaps a feeling,
A sensation of strength throughout your body,
You take what you need and you hold it within your body,
Within your mind so that it can strengthen and direct,
Way after this practice has ended.
So now,
We hold this space for you,
As your time,
Exploring and savouring this place of peace,
My voice will quieten as you draw from this experience all that you need.
