The fifth practice in a series exploring the foundations of mindfulness, inspired by the Buddha's teachings in the Satipatthana Sutta. In this meditation, we explore the third sattipatthana - mental states. We turn our attention to the changing landscape of the mind, noticing different mental states, their presence or absence, and their changing nature. With gentle awareness, we learn to recognise these states, becoming more familiar with their textures without judging them or identifying with them. Through this gentle observation, we develop greater clarity, equanimity, and a deeper understanding of the mind.
