This spoken-word poem invites you to let go of all the voices, expectations, and beliefs that were never truly yours. So often we carry burdens shaped by others ' words we once heard, judgments we absorbed, patterns that don’t serve us anymore. This piece is a gentle reminder that you can return what was never yours to begin with. It’s an invitation to come home to yourself – lighter, freer, and more whole.

The voices in my head were never really mine.

They were borrowed,

Taken in so I could belong.

They were planted in me through shame,

Through silence,

Through fear.

They weren't guidance,

But they were survival.

And yet,

For years,

I followed their echo,

Like it was my own.

Until the day I understood these voices never belonged to the child I once was.

They belonged to those who broke her.

And with that knowing,

Their power dissolved.

I return them now.

Every word,

Every wound,

Every echo that was never mine to carry.

And in the silence that remains,

I can finally hear my own voice.
