Hey.
Welcome to a hit of hope.
Something I read recently said,
Know that many blessings are in disguise right now.
Thank God was my first thought.
But then I started to get a little ornery.
Why?
Why are the blessings in disguise?
Don't they know we need them right now?
Isn't it time for them to throw their cloaks off and show themselves for who they are?
Spreading light and hope in a world that can feel so very dark and hopeless.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
If you've ever watched a movie where someone's in disguise,
You know there's often a reason they're hiding.
Yes,
Sometimes they are hiding because they are afraid or they're trying to trick someone.
But often the reason they are hiding is because the time isn't right,
Which seems counterintuitive because isn't it always a good time for a blessing?
Yes,
And it might be helpful to think of this in terms of fullness.
A sliver of a moon is beautiful,
Certainly.
But a full moon on the darkest of nights?
Yes,
Yes.
Sometimes blessings need time.
Time to grow,
To expand,
To burst forth right when the dark feels darkest.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Blessings are also like deer,
Hiding in the thick of things,
Easily spooked because how often do we humans go crashing through life,
Carrying weapons that wound?
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
If we can stop and settle,
If we can put down our feisty fists,
We might be surprised.
We might be surprised to discover a blessing looking right back at us with soft eyes and wild antlers.
No,
Blessings are not tanks ready to steamroll their way into our lives.
Blessings hide.
Blessings invite.
Be alert.
Be curious.
Be gentle.
Be open.
Breathe in and breathe out.
Be in the present moment.
It's where the blessings hide.
