This meditation begins with "soft eyes," which enables us to soften and open up our inner field of attention so that instead of focusing narrowly on the breath, we become aware of the breathing as a body-wide experience, with soft waves of movement and sensation sweeping through our entire physical being. This provides a rich source of sensation that can help the mind be nourished and calm.

So just allowing the eyes to soften,

Letting the muscles around the eyes be at rest and letting the focus within the eyes be soft as well,

Just allowing ourselves to arrive.

And as the eyes soften,

Usually to our inner field of attention,

Becomes gentler,

Naturally expansive,

So that sensations from all over the body are allowed into awareness.

So we're just arriving more fully in the body in this moment,

Being open to sensations arising all over the body and noticing the rise and fall of the breathing,

The soft waves of movement and sensation that sweep through the body with every in-breath and every out- breath.

And these soft waves of movement and sensation that accompany the in-breathing and the out-breathing,

They're not just sweeping through the parts of the body that are most obviously connected with the breathing.

So let your attention ride these waves,

Follow these soft waves,

As on the out-breath they sweep down into the legs and the feet,

And on the in-breath sweep back up again,

Follow these waves,

As on the out-breath they sweep into the arms and the hands,

And on the in-breath they sweep back again.

Notice how on an in-breath there is a wave of movement and sensation sweeping upward through the spine into the head,

Then back down again on the out-breath,

Just riding the waves of sensation,

Letting the breathing guide your attention into every part of the body.

Be curious,

Is there any part of the body that you haven't paid attention to,

Where you haven't observed the soft waves of the breathing sweeping through,

Just bringing a bit more attention into those places,

With the eyes still soft,

Still kind,

Beginning to open up to the fullness of your awareness once again,

Taking in the whole body,

How you feel,

How the mind is,

Opening up to the outside world,

And in your own time,

Beginning to move the body again,

Slowly and mindfully,

And allowing the eyes to open,

So that you can bring your loving gaze more fully into the world.
