Calm like a walrus for kids.

Close down your eyes and settle right in.

Our meditation story is about to begin.

With a deep breath in and a deep breath out.

Stretch out your body and let any wiggles come out.

Are your eyes still closed?

Let's take another breath in and start to use our imaginations.

The world can sometimes be confusing and scary.

Especially for a kind and brave kid like you.

Sometimes it can feel like things are happening all around us.

And there's nothing we can do.

Luckily,

Mindfulness is always here to help.

This helps us choose how to respond when something happens to us.

We can choose to pause,

To take a deep breath in,

And to decide what we want to do next.

Anger makes our bodies get tight.

And when this happens to me,

I like to breathe like a walrus.

Let's try it together.

As we close our eyes and pretend we are slow and calm like a walrus.

Let the sides of your face get heavy as you feel your cheeks getting big and full.

Imagine your front teeth growing into long walrus tusks.

You look pretty cute like that.

Now stretch out your hands and open them like great big flippers.

Strong and ready to help you swim through the sea.

Take a big breath in through your nose.

And out.

Take a big breath in through your nose.

And open your mouth wide as you pull.

Take a big sniff in through the nose.

And blow out with a pull.

You make a pretty great walrus.

You can always find a quiet place to be mindful and calm like a walrus.

It might not always make anger or fear or sadness go away.

But sometimes a walrus can help you feel much better.

I'm so happy we got to be walruses together today.
