Hope & Love Poems - My Gift

My Gift Many years ago,

I was given a package I had to keep.

It was a gift I wouldn't have asked for,

But I'm learning to appreciate.

Getting tired allows me to take the time to enjoy reading.

Being in pain develops tolerance.

Paralysis lets me experience interdependence.

Slowing down my life gives me practice with patience.

Weakness reminds me we all have imperfections.

Suffering brings a sensitivity to the fact that each of us is working at getting through something.

And uncertainty carries with it an awareness of the significance of each moment.

Illness has compelled me to grow,

To become more of the person I can be.

What a wonderful opportunity I have been given.

Such a gift is precious.
