Over 30 years ago I was given an insightful book by a close relative.
The book is called The Road Less Travelled by Scott Peck.
I remember opening the book for the first time and reading the infamous first line,
Which is made up of three words.
It reads,
Life is difficult.
I'm sure this statement resonates with all of us.
Difficulties will continue to accompany us through life,
But practicing gratitude can really help.
The reasoning behind this is that our brains have a natural threat bias.
In other words,
We're wired to keep ourselves safe.
And by shifting our focus to notice what is working in our life,
We can feel safer in the world despite imperfect circumstances.
Consequently,
Life may feel a little lighter.
So if you're ready to join me for this meditation called Gratitude for This Good Life,
Just find yourself settling into the space that you've chosen.
Feel the surface beneath you supporting your weight.
And soften your shoulders.
You might like just to roll them back and then just let them fall into a comfortable position.
And just loosen your jaw slightly.
Gently closing your eyes or lowering your gaze.
And bring your awareness to your breath.
No need to change it.
Simply just notice.
Notice the inhale.
And the exhale.
Let your breath be your anchor.
Steady and grounding.
And should your mind wander,
That's absolutely fine.
Just gently return this to your next breath.
And just continuing to breathe softly and naturally.
No need to force it at all.
Begin to repeat aloud or silently.
I am grateful for this moment.
I am grateful for each breath.
I am grateful for this body.
I am grateful for my heart and curious mind.
I am grateful for knowledge.
I am grateful for wisdom.
I am grateful for my body.
I am grateful for energy.
I am grateful for rest.
I am grateful for connection.
I am grateful for friends,
Particularly those who allow me to feel safe.
I am grateful for support.
I am grateful for love.
I am grateful for laughter.
I am grateful for kindness.
I am grateful for clarity.
I am grateful for trust.
I am grateful for possibility.
I am grateful for joy.
I am grateful for the laughter and love of friends.
I am grateful for the peace in my heart.
I am grateful for the joy in my heart.
I am grateful for the whole spectrum of emotions that I am capable of,
That make me human and for that I am grateful.
I am grateful for this journey.
I am grateful for each day and the chance to begin again.
Just take a nice,
Slow,
Steady breath in.
And as you exhale,
Allow this gratitude to settle deeply.
Allow this gratitude to settle deeply within you.
And then when you're ready,
Gently return to your space,
Carrying this awareness with you.
Thank you for joining me.
I'm Hilary Hart.
Namaste.
