Welcome to the day that has arrived.
Nothing happens in the present without letting go of the past.
The warm bed embraces and the bedclothes cling,
But they must be cast off before a step is taken into the new day.
We have to practice saying our goodbyes over and over.
Let the chant of goodbyes fade into the distance so that the present brings silence.
On a cold morning here,
The silence is thin and brittle,
Like the new ice on the small pond by the edge of the woods.
Even inside,
My breath seems thin today as it emerges,
Distinct from the past,
Now in the present.
Come again to your body and ground yourself in the physical,
Your physical self.
Breathe today's life into your body.
Breathe down into your toes,
Into your legs,
Into your middle,
Into your chest,
Into your arms,
And finally into your head.
And now,
Breathe life down into your feelings.
The feeling relishes life and expression.
The feeling once expressed loses its energy and the future beckons and then becomes the present,
Available for another feeling.
Each moment of the present is an opportunity for soul to express.
The way is prepared,
The path is clear,
But what will it require?
What gift will lure the shy spirit forth?
Simply the fertile ground of the prepared present.
May you not linger in the past today,
But say your little goodbyes whenever necessary and move into the present.
Your gift today is to let go.
