Welcome to Focus in 5.
We are going to do an exercise which is about keeping your attention on an external object.
The object to use could for instance be a pen,
A cup,
A leaf,
A crystal or another rock.
It's up to you but I recommend that it is something that you can hold in your hand.
So go find yourself a little item if you haven't already.
Now that you have a suitable item we are ready to start the exercise.
What we are going to do is simply to describe the item in our minds or out loud.
So what does it look like?
What is it made of?
What functions does the item have?
What does it feel like in your hands?
What is the texture like?
We will keep describing the item in this way for five minutes.
If your mind starts to wander about just gently accept that and go back to the task.
If you can't find anything more to say about the item just start from the beginning again with the colours for instance.
Just keep going,
That is the key of the exercise.
I will let you know when we're halfway through so let's begin.
Your five minutes starts in three,
Two,
One,
Let's go.
Keep going,
You're halfway there.
Well done,
The five minutes are up,
You did it!
By having completed this exercise you have increased your mental strength.
The more you do this the easier and easier it will get and the less your mind will wander off.
