So let's talk about letting go of expectations.
You know we often carry around so many expectations about how our day should go,
How other people should behave,
Or how events should unfold.
But holding too tightly to these expectations can create tension and disappointment when reality doesn't match our plans.
So let's take a gentle pause right here,
Right now.
Take a slow,
Easy breath in,
And a slow,
Soft breath out.
And as you continue to breathe,
See if you can notice if you're holding any expectations about this moment,
About yourself,
Or even about this meditation.
And if you are,
That's okay.
We're simply noticing without judging.
And breathing,
Breathing in softly,
Breathing out slowly,
Letting every breath guide you deeper into a sense of ease.
And now bring to mind a situation or an event that's been weighing heavily on you because of your expectations.
See if you can allow yourself to softly acknowledge those expectations.
Just notice how they're affecting your mind or your body.
And with your next breath out,
Imagine gently releasing your grip on these expectations.
Just like letting go of a balloon,
Allowing it to drift peacefully into the sky.
See if you can sense some relief that comes as you loosen your grip.
And if you find yourself caught up in thoughts or distractions,
That's okay.
It tends to happen when you're sitting still.
Just continue breathing,
Gently pull yourself back to the breath.
And as you continue breathing,
Notice how it feels in your body to let go,
To surrender to the idea that things don't always need to be exactly as you've imagined.
Often when we release our expectations,
We find a hidden ease,
A deeper peace beneath the surface of our striving.
See if you can allow yourself to sit with this ease,
Just breathing gently,
Feeling into the peaceful acceptance.
You know life is unpredictable,
It's imperfect,
And often it is so surprising in ways that we just can't foresee.
But letting go doesn't mean giving up.
It just simply means allowing life to unfold naturally,
Without forcing our own agenda onto every moment.
As Byron Katie reminds us,
Life is simple.
Everything happens for you,
Not to you.
Everything happens at exactly the right moment,
Neither too soon or too late.
You don't have to like it,
It's just easier if you do.
Just take a moment to breathe into that idea,
That perhaps everything is already unfolding exactly as it should,
Even if it's not how you'd planned it to.
So as we begin to wrap up,
Notice any lingering resistance or attachment and see if on next breath out,
You can softly release it.
Feel yourself grounded,
Peaceful,
Ready to meet whatever comes next,
With openness.
And as you move throughout your day,
You can gently remind yourself to release your grip on expectations,
Trust in the flow of life,
Knowing that you can find ease simply by letting things be exactly as they are.
May you be happy,
May you be healthy,
And may you be at peace.
Thank you so much for joining me.
