Hi,
I'm Dr.
Kim.
Today I want to share this poem written by my student Julie.
It is a reflection on the paradox of the breath,
The way our nervous system expresses itself through fight,
Flight,
Freeze,
Fawn,
And rest.
As you listen,
I invite you to notice your own breath and the wisdom it carries in this moment.
Honor the breath.
Honor the nervous system.
Safety is a feeling.
It is known when it is felt.
The rest of the time it exists in the paradox of the breath.
Fighting the fight.
Fleeing the flight.
Freezing the freeze.
Fawning the fawn.
Inhaling to rest.
Exhaling to digest.
The senses.
The special ops in heightened state.
Serving the country.
Protecting the world.
Know the breath.
To feel the breath.
To free the breath.
The illusion of control of the breath.
The breath controls.
The nervous system controls.
Honor the breath.
Honor the nervous system.
There holds the intelligence for survival.
As I read Julie's words,
I'm reminded of the power of the nervous system to guide not only our survival,
But our healing,
Our creativity,
And expression.
When Julie first began working with me,
Her breath was held.
Her body was guarded.
But as her nervous system unwound,
I watched her unlock not just her breath,
But her voice,
Her creativity,
And her freedom.
This poem is born from that freedom.
A living example of what becomes possible when we honor the breath,
When we honor the body.
As you carry her words with you,
May you also remember that your own breath holds the same potential to soften,
To heal,
And to awaken parts of you that have been waiting to be expressed.

Thank you so much for listening.
Have a wonderful day,
And I will see you tomorrow.
