Anger is not the enemy.
In fact,
If you don't allow yourself to get and express your anger,
You'll get sick.
Anger like every emotion is a message.
It is telling you something about your environment.
If someone is encroaching on your space,
If someone is doing something that may harm you,
You get angry.
Express it.
You keep yourself safe.
Then you drop it.
Right?
You don't hold on to it.
You don't like sort of let it fester.
But the actual act of getting angry and expressing it appropriately is healthy.
What happens if you don't express it?
What happens if you don't allow yourself to feel it?
You repress it,
You push it down,
And it gets expressed as mental illness,
As chronic issues,
As just hang-ups.
I'm looking at this in my personal life.
I'm noting that there is anger coming up.
And in the past,
I was trained,
I was taught to.
The environment forced me to repress it.
Don't express it.
Why?
Because I couldn't change anything about what was happening.
But now I can.
So I'm learning to embrace my anger.
Listen to it.
Express it where appropriately,
Not lose it.
And then let it go.
And I tell you what.
I'm feeling better.
I'm feeling more whole.
It's like using it as an assertive tool.
Rather than something to run from,
Or rather than something to hide,
Or rather than something to ignore?
Give it a try.
Let me know what you think.
