Resting the mind.
You may not be able to stop every thought that passes through your mind,
But you can gently create the conditions for greater calm.
Rather than trying to force your mind to be quiet,
This practice is about meeting it with patience and allowing it to settle in its own time.
You learn to pause and observe your inner experience you strengthen your ability to respond with awareness instead of being pulled into every thought or emotion over time this becomes a new habit one of steadiness kindness and ease So let's find a comfortable position,
Either sitting with a relaxed but upright posture or lying down if that feels more supportive.
Allow your body to soften into whatever position you've chosen Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose,
Feeling your lungs comfortably.
Pause for just a brief moment.
And exhale slowly,
Releasing the breath without rushing.
Imagine tension leaving your body as the air flows out.
Again,
Breathe in deeply.
And slowly breathe out,
Allowing your shoulders,
Jaw and forehead to relax a little more with each breath.
There is nothing you need to fix right now.
There is nowhere else you need to be.
Simply allow yourself this moment of rest.
As thoughts naturally arise,
There's no need to chase them away or argue with them.
Let them come and go like clouds drifting across the open sky while your attention gently returns to the rhythm of your breathing.
Now silently offer yourself these gentle intentions.
May my mind feel calm.
Next exhale,
May I meet my thoughts with kindness.
Continue repeating these phrases quietly to yourself,
Allowing one phrase to accompany each slow exhale.
There's no need to force the words.
Simply let them become a gentle reminder of how you wish to relate to your mind.
If your attention wanders and it will,
That's completely natural.
Each time you notice you've been carried away by thinking,
Gently return to your breath and your chosen phrases.
Every return is part of the practice.
Every moment of awareness is strengthening your capacity for calm.
Remain here for a few more slow,
Comfortable breaths.
Allowing your mind to rest.
Allowing your body to soften.
Allowing yourself to simply be.
When you feel ready.
And begin bringing awareness back to the room around you Notice the surface supporting your body.
Take one final nourishing breath in.
And slowly let it go you're ready.
Gently open your eyes,
Carrying this sense of steadiness with you into the rest of your day.
As you move through today,
Just notice moments when your mind begins to race or tighten.
And instead of fighting those moments,
See if you can pause,
Take one slow breath and gently remind yourself May my mind find calm.
May I meet my thoughts with kindness.
Take this throughout the rest of your day.
