Dr Nicholas Peters

Dr Nicholas Peters studied Music Composition with Dr Christopher Hobbs at Coventry University, achieving a First Class BA (Hons) degree (2008), an MA with Distinction (2011), and a practice-based PhD in Sonic Art, which he passed without any formal amendments (2019). His practice-based research combines both his music-making and his shamanic journeying as a continual process that he has termed ‘Spiritual Musicking’, an expansion upon Christopher Small’s theory of ‘Musicking’. He documented his ‘Spiritual Musicking’ practice of music-making and shamanic journeying through a PhD in Sonic Art with his thesis titled "Golden Sunset, Blue Rain: The Shamanic Journeys. A Practice-Based Investigation into ‘Spiritual Musicking’ and Its Creative Music-Making Realisations." He holds an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), and the diploma of Associate Fellow of the National College of Music and Arts, London (AFNCollM). Nicholas lectured in music at Coventry University from 2010 to 2022. He is an accredited sound and mantra therapist with the IPHM and runs sound baths for deep relaxation in Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale, and Sale, UK. He specialises in creating music designed to induce altered states of consciousness, required for undertaking shamanic journeying, inner focusing, and meditation. He produces singing bowl and sound bath compositions, short instrumental compositions, and ambient tracks. His music has been broadcast both nationally and internationally.
