Take a moment to get settled,
To get comfortable.
Loosening the tension in your shoulders,
The tension in your back,
The tension in your hips and pelvis,
Letting go of your legs,
Letting go of your arms,
The tension in your face and relax.
This meditation is about acknowledging the stress that you're carrying and that you've carried for the past year and showing that you can let it go.
I want you to focus now on the issues and dramas that have affected you over the past year.
Whichever one comes to mind is fine.
It's the strongest one your subconscious wants you to notice first.
And just breathe as you look at that event,
Not getting pulled in to the emotion,
Rather playing it through your mind while you sit on the sidelines.
And I want you to put your attention now on the tension in your body that is created when you think about the difficult parts of the past 12 months.
Where is the sensation?
Is it in your belly?
Is it in your neck?
Your feet?
Perhaps in your jaw?
Focus in on what your experience in your body is when you focus on your recent traumas,
Whatever they have been,
However strong,
However minor.
And notice that tension that you feel.
Does it have a weight to it?
Is there a heaviness or a pulsing?
Perhaps there's a flickering or a sense of colour.
It may feel uncomfortable to examine where this lies in your body,
But stay with it.
And as you focus on that sensation,
That heaviness,
That feeling,
That tension,
See what happens if you allow it to soften?
What happens if you acknowledge it there and soften at the edges?
Can you change the sensation?
Can you lift the weight?
Can you change the colour of the brightness or the darkness so that it becomes lighter and more compelling?
And what happens to the rest of your body as you allow that area of tension that was attached to emotions and stories about your past year?
What happens to the rest of your body as you soften and let go?
Can you feel your breathing becoming comfortably deeper,
More relaxed?
Can you notice other areas of your body softening and relax?
And notice now how good it feels to have let that tension go,
To have acknowledged it was there and to have released it.
And when you're ready,
Return your awareness to the room,
To what lies beneath you.
And in your own time,
Open your eyes.
