Inhale,
Exhale,
Be with your breath,
Stay in this moment.
Welcome to a hit of hope.
Take a moment and think about your relationship with your emotions.
What's it like?
When you think about emotions,
Are you like,
Oh hell no,
I don't do that.
Or maybe your skin is the only thing keeping all of your emotions inside as you carry the storm of them around day in and day out.
For the most part,
It can be easy to welcome the good emotions.
Happiness?
Oh yeah,
I'll take some of that.
Joy,
Sure.
Bring on excitement,
Amusement,
Interest.
Some days it might feel good even to welcome nostalgia,
That wistful sense of longing that can bring a slight smile to your face as you remember.
Or you might even welcome the arrow that beauty brings when you get pierced to the core by something that moves you.
Then there are those emotions that are harder to sit with.
Boredom?
Good god,
When will it end?
Awkwardness,
Oh goodness,
I've done it again.
Please,
Oh please,
Don't let the sadness swamp me.
Here comes the rage.
Maybe you live every day caught in craving,
Disgust,
Or fear.
When the demanding emotions come,
The ones that can threaten to undo you,
Inhale.
Exhale.
Be with your breath.
Stay in this moment.
Hard as it may be,
Honor the emotions.
All of them.
As Rumi says,
Greet them as esteemed strangers who arrive at your door.
Because if you do not welcome them,
They will barge in and probably wreak havoc.
Inhale.
Exhale.
May your body be a spacious container that can hold this emotion.
And then that one.
Be with your breath.
Stay in this moment.
Let the emotions come.
Let the emotions go.
Namaste.
