Sometimes we need to rediscover the space that is already all around us.
I invite you to close your eyes and find your breath.
Draw in a slightly deeper breath and watch as breath floods in and pours out.
Watching the inhale and then the exhale and also noticing that between the in and the out there's a little space.
A small gap at the top of the breath and at the bottom of the breath.
Just breathing and noticing.
The space that lives here between the breaths,
That's where we are.
Aware without commentary.
It's just us watching the comings and goings of the breath,
The comings and goings of the mind.
Noticing that awareness between the breaths now as you watch the breath.
This presence of awareness is something we can cultivate not just here in meditation but in life too.
Our awareness creates a space between an event and our reactions so that we can choose to respond rather than react.
As you bring the breath now into the fullness of your mind,
Gently noticing the breath as it is.
The space of awareness as it is.
And so too this space appears as we move from autopilot to manual.
As we choose to be conscious,
We begin to mind the gap between events and our response.
Resting in this awareness now as you breathe,
As you breathe and notice.
Minding the gaps between your breath,
Between your thoughts.
Being in this awareness.
How we respond to where we find ourselves.
This is our one true power in life.
We can't change the past but moment by moment we can shape our future responsively.
And as we do so,
We begin to flow in the same direction as life.
