Svasa Yam or the 8 Kriyas is a set of introductory breathing exercises, that are safe for anyone to practice. As Kriya means “action”, these are 8 actions that help calm the mind, purify the body and can have beneficial effects on physical problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease and insomnia. They can be performed at any time of day or night, except immediately after a meal. Elderly and others who are unable to do other pranayama, will enjoy the relaxing effects of these practices.
