When we are in "doing mode" and particularly when stressed, our bodies often without our awareness go into a mode of holding tension even in the breathing itself. This brief practice is a reminder of how to take quality breaths, and present-moment awareness that helps with clarity. It is accessible for a person with or without experience working with the breath. Let me know how this practice feels in your body, and take it into your day!

Transcript

Let's begin with a few breaths,

Exhaling completely.

Let yourself be curious about what that exhale feels like in your body.

Noticing where do you feel it the most?

Noticing if it feels effortful to exhale completely.

Noticing the subtle changes that takes place when you allow yourself to do so.

Inviting yourself to also notice where else can you soften?

What else can you let go?

Noticing in your body what it feels like when you exhale not just fully,

But slowly.

Letting yourself take satisfying breaths in and letting the exhale be gradual.

What else happens when you do that?

Is there a new way that becomes possible to let something go?

Letting the breath in this case perhaps represent a complete release.

And emptying out of what you don't need.

Just like the breath,

We take things in,

Make use of them,

And let them go.

On your own timing,

Taking three more complete breaths.

And when you're ready,

Bringing your awareness back.
