The new moon is a time to go inward. A time of introspection. A time to rest, reflect, and plant metaphorical seeds. To set new intentions, start new projects and begin to cultivate new positive habits. In this practice, we’ll inquire deeply to focus on the desires or intentions we wish to manifest during the lunar cycle.

This is a new moon guided meditation to help you tune in and set intentions for the coming weeks.

Find a comfortable position either seated or lying down.

Many invite the eyelids to close,

The mind to settle and the body to relax.

Take a deep breath in through the nose,

Open the mouth and let it go.

As you begin to find stillness,

Bring your awareness to your breath.

For the moment simply notice your inhales and exhales as they flow naturally in and out of the body.

Inhale deeply through the nose,

Feeling the belly area expand and hold the in breath for a moment.

Exhale slowly and completely and pause for a moment before inhaling deeply again.

Hold for 4,

3,

2,

1,

Exhale slowly and completely,

Taking a pause before inhaling again.

Continue to breathe in this way,

Holding the in breath for a count of 4,

Taking a brief Release the control over the breath,

Allowing it to return to its natural rhythm,

Moving in and out of the body.

Allow any thoughts to move through your mind as you breathe.

You might notice that one thought seems to repeat itself.

If so,

Focus your attention on it for a moment.

Acknowledge any feelings that might be attached to it.

And on an exhale breath,

Visualize gently blowing the thought away.

Continue this process with any other persistent thoughts,

Giving each of them a few moments of attention before releasing them softly.

Exhale slowly and completely and pause for a moment before inhaling deeply again.

The new moon is a time to look deeply within ourselves,

To inquire into our hearts and listen.

What are the things that you would like to bring into your life?

The initiatives that you want to take,

The changes that you want to make,

The relationships you want to build and nurture.

Take a few moments to connect to what you truly want.

Give yourself permission to dream big,

To be audacious.

You might focus on something very concrete,

A project you want to start or something you want to accomplish.

Or it might be more vague.

It could be a feeling you want to start cultivating,

A characteristic or a habit.

Whatever it might be,

Try to submerge yourself in it.

See it as a reality in your mind's eye.

Begin to create a mantra or phrase to repeat in your mind that relates to your new beginning or intention.

It can be a specific statement about your intention or something more general like,

I am inviting in this positive new beginning.

Create your mantra in your own words and begin to recite it,

Sending a clear message out to the universe stating what you want.

Observe if you start to judge the things that you want,

To pick them apart or doubt them.

Only release these thoughts,

Allow them to float away from you.

Take this time to plant the seeds of your intentions deep within the fertile soil of your heart and mind.

Continue to whatever it is you want to start,

Knowing that the energy of the moon will support you.

Begin to bring your awareness back to your breath,

To the gentle rise and fall of your chest and abdomen.

Take a big breath in through the nose,

Open the mouth and let it go.

I invite you to take a few moments after this meditation to write down your intentions and desires.

Place them somewhere that you can see on a regular basis,

Inviting them to stay present in your mind.

When you feel ready,

Begin to gently open the eyes,

Inviting the light back in.
