Looking at Meditation Explained.
It's not always easy to understand how all of this works.
The Raja Yoga makes it very,
Very clear but still it can seem not very clear.
We are physical beings.
We live a physical life.
Fine,
That's great.
And in our physical lives we have a physical consciousness.
We see everything around us as physical.
We do as well,
The ones that do meditation see this as well.
And at some point we totally and utterly identify only with the physical.
Everything about us we see as physical,
Our past,
Our present and our future.
We don't know what's going to happen in the future but we have hopes for the future.
And when we come to look at meditation,
Raja Yoga meditation,
We are encouraged to see ourselves as the personality behind the physical being.
And we say it's the real you,
Who you really are.
And the different qualities you have.
Although we've heard the words of peace and kindness and happiness and courage and determination and generosity and kindness and all the different things.
We think well we know that,
We do that anyway as a physical person but you'll do it for physical reasons when you're the physical personality.
When you're the spiritual energy you think my nature actually is peace and love and happiness and lightness of spirit.
I am the energy,
The energy that gives me the strength to perform my actions in the physical,
To be the physical personality.
I can't be the physical personality without the energy of the soul.
I,
The soul,
The spiritual being.
I can't be that just as a physical being because the physical being has no energy.
The energy comes from the soul,
The soul is the light,
The battery,
The information in the center of the forehead.
And when I'm in physical consciousness I use up that energy at a fast speed because I cannot replace it.
I just use it just like you think of a battery in a car.
I don't know what it's like nowadays but you couldn't replace it unless you took it to the garage but you use the battery,
Use the battery,
Use the battery then boom.
It needs recharged.
So we begin to understand that the soul is the battery and if I keep using it and using it and using it I get tired.
I get negative,
I get physically unwell,
I get angry,
I get aggressive,
I get hopeless,
I get frightened.
All these energies come when I run out of energy.
Raja Yoga says you can recharge your battery through meditation,
Through understanding you are the energy,
The life energy.
You are this.
You are this.
So when I understand that I'm the energy and I start to think in a different way,
I start to re-empower myself and it means practice.
I can't just hear the words,
That's not going to do it.
I can't just hear the words and say,
Oh I've had meditation,
I can't just sit in silence also with nothing happening in there.
I need to think.
I need to think of what I'm hearing,
Examine it and practice it over and over throughout the day.
I am peace so I teach myself to be calm.
A situation comes which upsets me,
I teach myself to be calm,
Stay calm,
Stay calm.
That way you're not burning up your energy in that disturbance.
And I teach myself to be kind when I feel like not being very nice to someone I go chu chu chu.
I teach myself the natural nature of the soul is kindness and peace and love.
So someone I don't like at all comes in front of me as a physical being,
I would have barriers as a spiritual being.
I give good wishes and good feelings silently,
I don't have to say anything.
But that way I'm not losing my energy and I'm recharging my energy through good feelings,
Powers,
Good wishes.
A situation comes in front of me which I'm not sure I can do this,
I feel nervous,
That's the physical part of me.
And I'm burning my energy in this apprehension and I go,
Stay calm,
Have courage,
You can do this.
And I'm recharging my battery.
So there's the two different sides,
There's the physical which uses my energy,
Cause me unhappiness and upset.
And there's the spiritual which brings more feeling of well-being,
Cheerfulness,
Lightness.
So if we change our thoughts then our words and our actions will actually change.
And to transform our personality,
You don't really change,
You've still got your physical life going on but you're changing your energy,
Your consciousness.
So this transformation begins with our thoughts,
The way we think.
And I,
The real being in here,
The peaceful being in here,
Who is quite often overwhelmed by the spiritual identity,
I am actually an actor,
I have all the skills,
I can use many skills and I'm playing different roles of relationships and responsibilities.
So many different people come into relationships,
Some are easy,
Some are a joy to be with,
Others are really tricky.
And so I learn how to interact with everyone and actually help them by giving them good vibrations and not burning up my energy in this interaction.
And when we interact with people,
Let us interact with seeing that everyone is the energy.
So if they're angry and upset,
They're burning their energy,
Let me not encourage them to keep burning that energy on me,
By me interacting back with that force but with calmness to help them to calm down.
So I should realise I'm interacting with a soul,
With a pure being,
A pure energy,
Rather than interacting with this angry physical personality that's in front of me.
And so when we talk through the consciousness of our acquired labels,
Like I am good at whatever,
That's fine,
That's fine,
But it's physical,
And someone else will chip in with a,
They're better,
They've got a better deal than I have or whatever,
And therefore we're all chatting in a way that's burning up our energy.
So if we start talking about our labels,
Like I'm great at sport,
That's okay,
It's fine,
Nothing wrong with that.
And I'm a great cook,
That's fine as well,
But if I get too carried away with that,
Then that interaction is using my energy.
Then it's the ego of one talking to the ego of the other,
So a lot of energy is being lost during that transaction.
Whereas if one person remembers they are the energy talking to another soul,
Then it can lighten the conversation in a way you don't have to do very much,
But just help that person also not to get too carried away with their position or their money or whatever,
Which is going to dramatically use up their life energy.
So in any situation,
Playing our role with so many actors,
Everyone's complex,
Everyone's different,
Everyone's wonderful actually,
But everyone's using up their life energy.
Let us stop writing their script,
That is agreeing with them and bowing to their ideas because they are not in our control,
We can't control anybody.
We can only control ourselves always,
And also in situations the only person in the situation I can control is me,
But if I control myself I can help a situation.
Calm down the anxiety,
Calm down the anger,
Calm down the worry,
Calm it down.
So let us only write our own script,
And in our own script we are peace,
We are love,
We are power,
We are courage,
We are strength,
We are determination,
We have ceiling enthusiasm,
We have power.
We have kindness,
Friendliness,
Helpfulness,
Cooperation,
It goes on and on and on and on.
Beautiful qualities,
Masses of qualities,
And they are in us.
They are in us but they cannot get out when I'm performing a physical interaction.
My other stuff stays trapped in my intellect,
It's when I remember I'm the energy,
My good feelings can come out and help me and whoever else is in that room.
It can be helped with that energy.
But when we keep on thinking about what others are doing or speaking,
We think why did they say that?
Oh gosh I don't know how to handle this,
What can I do here?
Oh I have to do something.
So when we keep thinking about what others are doing or speaking,
We're only depleting our energy.
If I say what others are doing or speaking and remember who I am,
I'm not depleting my energy and I'm helping to soften whatever is happening there also.
So we become like life savers in a way and bodyguards in a way.
We look after our own life energy and we help to protect the life energy of others.
But it's all silent,
No one would know.
Except when we're gathered together and sharing and talking like this,
You get to know how this works.
And so it's very valuable.
But you do have to think about it and see if you agree with it,
Sort out your tussles which say oh I don't know about that.
Because it can take time for it to resonate.
And when you realise who you are,
Who the real you is,
You are energy but so is everyone else.
It's not that we're the hierarchy,
We just have happened to find out and practice and know how to then begin to use our energy so as not to deplete it.
Okay,
I am a soul,
I am peace,
I am love,
I am kindness,
I am strength,
I am supportive.
Just focus on the centre of the forehead.
I am Shanti,
I keep my eyes open and rest my eyes on the centre of Sister Rose's forehead.
It's an easy way to remember that I am the soul looking out through the eyes.
I am not this body,
The body is the vehicle,
The costume.
I am the living being,
The point of consciousness.
I am a point of light and I am the energy of peace.
I am peace and I bring peace to the front of my awareness again.
Who am I?
Am I just this body?
When I look into a mirror,
What am I looking at?
Is that me?
Is there more to me than my physical image?
My body is very real,
I am aware of its shape and size,
Its appearance,
Its state of health,
How it feels sitting in this chair.
But who am I?
When I introduce myself to others,
How do I let them know who I am?
I may start with my name,
My occupation,
My relationships,
My age,
My address and other descriptions about my life.
But these are all physical things,
These are all external descriptions of me.
Is there more to me than this?
Who am I?
As I think about my identity,
I am aware of my memories,
My experiences in life,
The things I have done and the things that have been done to me,
The people who have affected me and the places and events that have influenced me.
These are all part of my inner world,
My inner identity.
All my experiences and interactions have shaped my personality and give rise to my thoughts and feelings.
I ask myself,
Is there still a deeper aspect to my identity?
Is there an eternal part of me that is unaffected by relationships and the world around me?
What is my spiritual identity?
Who am I?
My spiritual identity,
My eternal identity is soul.
I am a soul,
A being of energy.
My appearance is like a tiny star,
A radiant being of pure energy.
A spiritual being giving life to this physical body.
I imagine how I would look separate from my body.
I picture myself as a being of light,
Like a star,
A tiny star,
Like the stars in the night sky.
The stars in the sky are enormous worlds,
So far away from us that they seem like tiny sparkling points in the night sky.
There is an enormous world that makes up who I am,
But that is all contained within a tiny,
Tiny star.
I imagine myself free from all the influences of my daily life for a moment,
Floating free as a star.
Pure,
Vibrant,
Radiant energy.
Away from the influences of my life,
Who am I?
I am a being of peace.
When I look at the stars in the night sky,
I feel a sense of peace and tranquility.
My spiritual identity is soul,
And the nature of soul is peace.
Not just a momentary absence of disturbances,
But a very real and permanent peace.
Within my nature of peace I also find love.
Not the temporary love of passing phases,
But a deep sense of self-respect and compassion.
I reconnect with my spiritual identity,
With my true nature of peace and love.
When I forget who I really am,
When I am caught up in the world and its events,
The roles and responsibilities that make up my daily life,
Then from time to time I am separated from my true self and I forget my nature of peace and love.
I will remember,
Consciously,
That I am a spiritual being.
This is my real identity,
My eternal identity.
It feels good to be at peace.
The more I get to know my spiritual self in solitude,
The more I can be myself when there are others around.
The more I appreciate who I am,
The easier it is to see others for who they are.
Each one of us a unique being.
Each one of us worthy of being alive.
Each of us a spiritual being doing our best to face the challenges of life in the physical world.
I will come again soon to this inner solitude and my true identity.
Gently I sense that I am sitting inside this body.
My energy returns and I know who I am.
I am not alone.
I am not alone.
I am not alone.
I am not alone.
