Shake the story out of your body. In this 5-minute somatic release practice, you’ll move beyond the mind and into pure sensation. Through shaking, breath, sound, and instinctive movement, you’ll loosen the emotions your nervous system has been gripping and let the body do what it’s designed to do — release. This is a fast, grounding practice to reset your system, dissolve stress, and reclaim your aliveness.

Hello,

Darling,

And I'm so excited that you're here.

It is time to shake the story out.

Underneath the story that the mind is looping over and over and over again is a feeling that's trapped in the body,

And we're going to shake out that feeling so that story no longer has a hold on you.

Okay,

So you may be standing up for this or you may be sitting down.

What I want you to do right now is lower your gaze or close your eyes completely,

And take a deep breath in and begin to shake your hands.

We're going to inhale through the nose throughout the whole time.

We're going to exhale through the mouth,

And you should be exhaling with the sound.

So it should sound like this,

Let out a sound,

And let the shake start to build momentum.

So now it's moving from the hands to the wrists,

Through your arms,

Through your shoulders,

And now it's arrived at your neck and your head,

And it's coming down your spine,

Inhaling deeply,

Exhaling audibly,

And if you are standing up,

Then you can bring the shake down your legs,

Into your ankles,

Into your feet,

But if you are sitting down,

You can keep the shake all the way through your upper body,

And bringing movement and shake and tremor into the hip area,

And keep your attention inside of your body.

If your mind starts to go into a story about the future,

The past,

Or looping about anything else besides this very moment of you shaking right now with the breath,

Bring it back,

Shake it faster,

Shake it more passionately,

Inhale deeply through the nose,

Exhale audibly through the mouth,

Give it sound.

Your body knows how to let go,

It just needs your permission,

So this shake right now with this breath is your permission to let go of trapped emotions,

To let go of these stories that are haunting you,

That are holding you back from living the life of your dreams.

Inhale deeply,

Exhale audibly.

When you shake,

You're not erasing the story,

You're freeing the feeling beneath it.

Keep shaking,

Keep shaking.

Make sure that you're bringing some movement and shaking to your neck,

And your shoulders,

And your spine,

And your hips.

Shake,

Shake,

Shake,

Shake,

Shake,

Shake,

Shake.

Inhale deeply,

Exhale audibly.

Keep it going,

Keep it going.

If emotions arise,

Let them move through you.

Maybe it's through a sound,

Or a hum,

Or a yawn,

Or a laugh,

Or a cry.

Let it come and let it go,

Let it come and let it go.

Let the body say what words never could.

Inhale deeply,

Exhale audibly.

Keep it going,

Keep it shaking,

Keep it shaking.

We're almost there,

We're almost there.

This shake is your system choosing life again.

You don't need to understand it,

You just need to let the feeling move.

Keep it going,

Keep it going.

We're almost there,

We're almost there.

This is how stories dissolve.

This is how the story is dissolved.

This is how they pass.

This is how they move.

This is how they become free.

It's through movement,

Through breath,

Through sound.

Inhale deeply,

Exhale audibly.

And let the shake go.

Let the shake go completely.

Now just observe your inner world.

Observe the buzzing in your face,

In your chest,

In your hands,

Throughout your whole body.

You're alive,

My dear.

This is how aliveness feels.

Not as an idea,

But as a pulse.

This is your nervous system remembering peace through movement.

Bring your hands in prayer over your heart.

Just take a moment to dedicate the merit of this practice.

May this peace,

May this aliveness that I have just experienced,

May it reach all people everywhere.

May all beings with no exception experience this aliveness,

Experience this peace.

Like that.

An excellent practice! I loved this brief somatic meditation and how it really helped me to release my narrative through active physical engagement. The drumbeat also enhanced my experience: I felt connected to a natural instinct and rhythm of my body as I shook everything away. And the release at the end was exhilarating!
