Breathe to relax.

This meditation helps you relax deeply using only the breath.

Sit comfortably where you won't be disturbed for a few minutes.

I'll give you a few moments to situate yourself.

When you are ready,

Exhale completely using your mouth.

Breathe in quietly through the nose while silently counting to four.

That is,

You're taking one breath to a mental count of four.

Hold your breath for a few moments.

Now breathe out through your mouth to a relaxed,

Quiet count of six.

Relax into yourself.

Again,

Breathe in slowly through your nose while silently counting to four.

Hold your breath for as long as it's comfortable and breathe out while counting to six.

As you exhale,

This time allow your relaxation to deepen.

You are now more relaxed and your body is being lulled into a state of rest.

Take a slow,

Deep breath while counting to four.

Hold your breath for a few moments.

Now breathe out to a count of six.

You feel even more relaxed and peaceful.

Take a slow,

Deep breath in to a count of four.

Hold your breath for a few moments.

Now breathe out to a count of six.

Imagine that you're going deeper into your being,

Into a state of calm.

Breathe in deeply,

Hold as long as it's comfortable and exhale slowly.

As you inhale and exhale,

You're moving slowly but surely deeper and deeper into your calm center.

Breathe in slowly and exhale gently as you double your relaxation and go deeper and deeper into your quiet center.

Take a few more deep breaths.

Inhaling on a count of four.

Hold your breath and exhale on the count of six.

Now imagine that all your tensions are pouring out of your body into the air along with every exhalation.

Now release your thoughts.

Let the air absorb them.

Take a slow,

Deep breath and gently release.

Let your breath keep you in your serene center.

You're feeling peaceful,

Soothed and completely rested.

Every breath is taking you deeper and deeper into the center of your being.

There you find complete stillness.

You are totally relaxed.

Allow yourself to float back to the world of sounds and sights.

You feel totally refreshed.

You are delighted knowing that simply by this breathing technique,

You can travel inward to your quiet,

Restful,

Relaxed center whenever you wish.

Absolutely wonderful. It was a very simple breathing exercise, the most wonderful thing for me is that she was not pressuring me at all to breathe as deeply as she expected or to let my exclamation be exactly how long she expected. I just was breathing at my own pace to the count of four in four holding and six out. But you could change that however you wish. And so being peaceful and relaxed was a lot easier with her lesson than with some of the teachers.
