Welcome to Open Space,
A soft strength meditation for spacious thinking and gentle clarity.
Let's begin by arriving.
Find a position that feels supportive,
Seated upright or lying down.
Let your hands rest somewhere natural.
And now just notice that you are here.
You are simply arriving.
Gently close your eyes if that feels comfortable.
And take a slow breath in through your nose for four,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
And out through your mouth for six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Again,
In for four,
Three,
Two,
One.
And out for six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Let's do that two more times.
In,
Now allow your breath to settle into its own rhythm.
I invite you to bring your awareness to your forehead and soften it.
Let your eyes sit heavy in their sockets.
Unclench your jaw.
Allow your tongue to rest.
Let your shoulders drop a fraction lower than they were.
Notice your chest rising and falling,
Your ribs expanding and softening.
Let your belly soften.
Feel the weight of your hips,
Your legs,
Your feet.
And imagine the ground beneath you holding it all.
You do not have to hold yourself right now.
The ground has you.
One more slow breath in.
And a long,
Easy breath out.
Now,
I invite you to gently bring your awareness to the space in front of you.
Even with your eyes closed,
You can sense it.
The open space,
The quiet space,
The invisible space stretching out ahead.
Allow your attention to rest there as if you were gazing into a wide open horizon.
Just space.
Let your breath move naturally.
And allow your mind to drift across that open space like clouds moving across the sky.
Notice your breath again.
Feel the weight of your body,
The surface beneath you.
Gently wiggle your fingers,
Your toes,
Roll your shoulders slightly.
And perhaps stretch your arms above your head if that feels good.
Take one deeper breath in.
And a long exhale out.
Notice how you feel.
Open your eyes.
I invite you to ask yourself quietly,
What came up for me?
Was there a thought that lingered,
A memory,
An idea,
A feeling,
A nudge?
When you're ready,
I invite you to jot down whatever surfaced.
Even a single word,
Even a sentence.
Because when we give our mind space,
It often shows us something important.
When you're ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Take your time returning.
And carry this sense of space with you into the rest of your day.
