This is an invitation to deep,
Relaxing rest.
I invite you to allow your eyes to close.
Noticing the places that make contact in this moment.
Where the top eyelids meet the bottom eyelids.
Where the top lip meets the bottom lip.
And where the body makes contact with the surface that you're laying upon.
And allow the body to rest just as it is.
There's nothing more that needs to be accomplished.
There's nothing that needs to be understood or figured out.
This is the time for letting go.
Noticing the simple fact that you are being supported.
The surface beneath you is already completely holding your weight.
So allowing the body to melt into the surface that you're lying upon.
Let the head be heavy.
The jaw unclenched.
And letting the tongue rest easily in the mouth.
Allow everything to soften.
The muscles on the face.
The arms resting.
The hands doing nothing at all.
There's no need to relax deliberately.
Just letting the body follow its own natural rhythm towards rest.
And now gently bring attention to the breath.
No need to change the breath in any way.
Simply sensing that the breathing is happening all on its own.
And if you notice that the mind is wandering into memories of the past.
Or imagination about the future.
Just knowing mind wandering.
And let your attention come back to rest gently right here with this breath.
Nothing to force.
Just a natural easing.
As that breath flows out,
The body can release a little more weight.
Become a little heavier.
Again and again with each out breath.
Sinking deeper.
If thoughts arise,
That's okay.
There's no need to follow them.
And there's no need to push them away.
They can drift through like clouds in an open sky.
No need for any response.
And now letting awareness move slowly through the whole body.
Beginning to consciously and intentionally bring your awareness to each part of the body.
Inviting a deeper rest for every part that you notice.
Beginning at the bottom of the feet.
Allowing them to rest.
The ankles and lower legs softening a bit.
The knees resting.
Noticing the thighs heavy and supported.
Noticing the hips,
The buttocks,
The low back.
Letting the belly soften.
With each out breath softening more and more.
Noticing the chest and the support of the upper back and shoulders.
Allowing the arms to be heavy.
All the way down the arms to the fingertips.
Letting the head and neck rest fully.
As if sleep is already beginning there.
If at any point attention fades,
It's not a problem.
You don't need to come back.
You don't need to do anything else.
The body knows how to sleep.
The mind knows how to rest.
Like water flowing into water.
Like wax melting into wax.
Letting the body return to stillness.
You can allow the sound that you hear to be the gentle background.
Allowing the sound to hold you and support you.
In this time of deep restorative rest.
Nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing more for you to do.
And now I'll let the sound continue.
And leave you to your deep restorative rest.
To a deep sleep.
In whatever way comes naturally.
