Welcome to this brief anchor meditation for military spouses.
Come to this meditation when you are experiencing peaks in stress or if you just need a moment to reset.
First,
Let's acknowledge that you are experiencing a high intensity moment and the waves of life feel as if they are crashing down on you.
It is okay to pause and take care of you.
Drop your anchor and position yourself in a comfortable seated position or standing posture.
Next,
We're going to notice your thoughts,
Your feelings and sensations.
There's nothing you need to fix or change or interact with.
Just allow yourself to land here for a moment.
What thoughts are you having right now?
Any emotions that are coming up for you?
Any physical sensations that are drawing your attention?
Just take inventory of what's occurring for you internally right now.
Now we're going to connect to your breath to reduce the intensity of these waves.
Follow the natural rhythm of your inhale and exhale.
Let your breath be easy.
If it helps,
Imagine each breath as the anchor traveling down through your body toward your feet and on every out-breath your anchor is connecting you to the ground beneath you.
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Using your breath as your anchor.
Take a few moments to just focus solely on the physical act of breathing.
Hold steady in this moment.
See if you can't get yourself into an even taller and dignified stance.
Use these next breaths to stabilize you.
Keep breathing.
Now let's open up your awareness and allow this centeredness to expand through your whole body.
Breathe deeper if it helps.
Allow the breath to go all the way up through your head,
Through your fingers,
Through your toes.
Let it just wash all over you.
Now from this place of steadiness,
When you're ready,
Gently lift your gaze to signal that it's time for anchors away from the seafloor.
Retrieve your anchor and carry on with your day,
Knowing that you can always drop anchor with your breath to steady you,
To stabilize you.
You can return to this pause anytime,
Whenever you need it.
From one mindful mill spouse to another,
May you have fair winds and following seas.
