Transcript
There are some nights when rest feels just out of reach.
The mind is tired but the body won't relax,
Holding on to the tension of the day.
So tonight we'll create a safe space to allow your body to settle,
Inviting sleep to come naturally.
We'll begin by bringing our awareness to the breath,
We'll then slow the breath down using controlled breathing to calm the nervous system and then once the body's relaxed we'll offer the mind a peaceful place to rest,
Drifting into a gentle visualization by the ocean.
At the end of my guidance,
If we're still awake we'll be left with soft pink noise in the background,
Providing just enough calm to carry us deeper into rest.
Let's take a moment now to find a comfortable position.
Now we might find it comfortable to rest on our back with our arms by our sides or perhaps we prefer to lie on our side,
Bringing a pillow close for support,
Whatever feels best for you.
If we need to make any small adjustments feel free to do so now,
Even shifting just a little,
Tilting the head slightly,
Repositioning the arms or softening the space around the lower back.
These can all make a difference in how comfortable we feel.
And once you've found that comfortable place there's nothing else to do.
There's no need to hold ourself in any particular way,
There's no effort required,
We're simply allowing our body to rest,
To settle,
To be exactly as it is.
We're fully supported by the surface beneath us and we're trusting that we're held,
We're safe,
We're at ease.
If it feels good,
Gently closing the eyes or simply softening the gaze and closing the eyes when the time feels right.
As we're feeling the weight of our body lying here notice how it rests effortlessly,
As if the bed,
The surface beneath us is inviting us to sink just a little deeper.
There's nothing we need to do,
Nothing to figure out,
Just being here,
Exactly as we are.
Now let's bring our attention to the breath.
There's nothing we need to change about the breath,
Nothing to control,
We're just noticing the natural rhythm of the breath as it moves in and moves out.
We're breathing in,
Feeling the cool air enter the body and breathing out,
Noticing the gentle warmth as it leaves the body.
Before we settle fully into rest,
Let's take a few moments to slow the breath and signal to the body that it's time to unwind.
We'll start with a simple breathing exercise,
Breathing in for four counts,
Holding for just a moment and then exhaling for four counts.
Then we're going to gradually extend the breath,
Moving to five counts,
Then six,
Then seven.
This gentle progression helps to activate the body's relaxation response,
Allowing tension to melt away naturally.
If at any point it feels uncomfortable,
Simply breathe at a slow,
Steady pace that feels right for you.
There's no need to force anything,
Just let the breath flow with ease.
Let's begin.

Now we can allow the breath to return to its natural rhythm.
Notice how the body's breathing now.
Does the breath feel softer?
A little deeper,
Maybe?
We're feeling the gentle rise and fall of the breath,
The quiet ease spreading through the body.
Each inhale bringing in calm.
Each exhale releasing the weight of the day.
With every breath we're drifting closer to stillness,
Allowing the body to sink even deeper into relaxation.
We're not changing the breath,
We're letting each breath be soft,
Effortless,
Flowing naturally,
Just as it is.
And as we rest here we might begin to notice a gentle sense of heaviness settling into the body,
A quiet weight,
A feeling of being held,
Supported,
As if the body is surrendering to gravity,
Allowing itself to completely let go.
With each exhale we might sense this heaviness spreading through the legs,
The arms,
The back,
A soft grounding weight drawing us closer to stillness,
Body sinking just a little deeper into the surface beneath us,
The muscles softening,
The breath settling,
No effort,
No resistance,
Just allowing the body to become heavy,
Warm,
At ease.
Each breath in welcomes calm,
Each breath out releases tension,
And as we breathe out,
Letting go even more.
Simply resting here,
Safe,
Supported,
Body growing heavier,
Mind growing quieter,
The breath,
The warmth,
The quiet weight of the body as it surrenders into rest,
There's nothing to hold on to,
Nothing to do,
Just this moment,
This deep,
Effortless relaxation.
If thoughts arise,
That's ok,
There's no need to resist them or push them away,
Instead,
We can simply notice them,
Like clouds drifting through the sky or waves rolling in and out,
There's no need to engage,
No need to follow them,
Just letting them pass,
Returning to the breath,
Returning to the warmth and the quiet stillness settling in the body.
Now,
As the mind softens,
We can offer it something gentle to rest upon,
A peaceful place to drift toward,
A calming scene to settle into.
So let's begin to paint a picture.
A warmth surrounds you,
Gentle,
Familiar,
And as you breathe in,
You feel yourself drifting,
Weightless,
Into a place of stillness,
Of ease.
Picture yourself strolling along a quiet,
Pristine beach,
Bathed in the golden light of sunset,
The soft,
Golden sand is warm beneath your feet,
Each step pressing gently into the earth,
Leaving behind footprints that the tide will soon erase.
Feel the grains of sand shifting under your toes,
Grounding you with every step.
The rhythmic sound of the waves greets your ears,
A soothing,
Timeless melody of water meeting land.
Each wave washes up onto the shore and rolls back,
Its gentle crash,
Followed by a soft whisper as it pulls away,
Leaving a delicate lace of foam behind.
Ahead of you,
The sun begins its slow descent down towards the horizon,
Its light dances on the ocean,
Turning the waves into liquid gold.
As you walk closer to the water,
The cool,
Crisp breeze brushes up against your skin,
Carrying with it the faint,
Salty scent of the sea,
And a hint of something sweet,
Perhaps blooming flowers nearby,
Or the distant scent of fresh rain.
You find a perfect spot to sit,
Nestled into the sand.
It's soft,
Comforting and cool beneath you,
While the warmth from the fading sun wraps around you like a reassuring blanket.
You lean back slightly,
Allowing your body to relax fully,
Your hands lightly touching the cool surface of the sand.
Notice how it crumbles and shifts beneath your fingers,
Helping you feel steady and grounded in this moment.
As you settle in,
Take a deep breath,
The air is crisp and clean,
Filling your lungs with a sense of lightness.
As you breathe out,
Feel a calmness beginning to spread through your body,
As though the weight of the day is being carried away by the breeze.
The sun sinks lower,
Its glow turning the sky into a breathtaking painting.
Golden rays soften into rich oranges,
Vibrant pinks and deep purples.
Clouds stretch lazily across the horizon,
Catching the light in brilliant,
Ever-changing hues.
You watch as the colours shift and blend,
Each moment more beautiful than the last.
You can feel the warmth of the setting sun on your face,
Gentle heat that radiates not just on your skin but within you,
Relaxing your muscles,
Softening any tightness in your body.
Imagine that warmth sinking into your shoulders,
Your arms,
Your chest and flowing down into your legs and feet.
Each part of you feels lighter,
As if the sun's glow is melting away any tension,
Leaving only calm.
The breeze brushes past again,
Carrying with it a new sensation,
A faint trace of lavender or jasmine in the air,
Calming and soothing.
You feel it enveloping you,
Inviting you to relax even deeper.
With every wave that rolls onto the shore,
Imagine it gently pulling away a worry,
A thought or a piece of tension you no longer need.
Each wave carries it far out to sea,
Leaving you lighter,
More at ease.
The sun touches the horizon now,
Its last rays spreading across the water in a golden path that seems to reach towards you.
It's as if the ocean itself is inviting you to let go,
To release completely into this moment of peace.
You feel the coolness of the evening setting in,
A soft contrast to the warmth of the sun,
Reminding you that it's time to rest.
As the sky transitions to twilight,
The first stars begin to appear.
The ocean,
Now darker,
Reflects the stars like a mirror,
Creating a sense of infinite space and calm.
You feel small in the best way possible,
Part of something much greater and yet completely safe,
Held in this serene moment.
Take another deep breath in,
Letting the beauty of this scene fill every corner of your being.
And as you breathe out,
Allow yourself to sink further into the sand,
Into this peace,
Into the soft pull of sleep.
The waves,
The stars,
The breeze,
They're all here to cradle you as you drift into restful,
Deep relaxation.
The waves continue their steady rhythm,
Rolling in and rolling out,
Each one carrying you deeper into rest.
The air is cool against your skin now,
The last warmth of the sun fading into the soft embrace of twilight.
Above you,
The sky is vast and open,
Scattered with stars,
Nothing to do,
Nowhere to be.
Just this moment,
This deep,
Effortless stillness,
Your body feels weightless,
As if the sand beneath you is holding you in perfect comfort,
Supporting you,
Cradling you in its warmth.
Returning now to the gentle rhythm of the breath,
Allowing each breath to flow through the whole body,
Bringing with it a soft,
Calming energy.
Breathing in,
And breathing out,
Slowly,
Effortlessly.
Resting here,
In a place of ease.
Each breath is softer now,
Slower,
More effortless.
With every inhale,
A deep sense of ease fills our body.
With every exhale,
We surrender a little more.
Drifting.
Floating.
Resting.
The gentle sounds of the waves,
The hush of the breeze,
The quiet hum of the night,
They all blend together,
Wrapping around us like a lullaby,
Guiding us towards sleep.
As we continue to sink deeper into this restful space,
We might notice our awareness beginning to fade.
Thoughts dissolving like footprints in the sand.
A gentle release.
A quiet surrender.
A body becoming heavier,
More serene.
Sinking into a deep,
Quiet relaxation.
We're resting.
Releasing.
Drifting gently into a state of quiet ease,
Inviting sleep to come naturally,
In its own time.
Nothing to hold on to.
Nothing to do.
Just the steady rhythm of breath.
The soft,
Pull of rest.
Letting go.
Sinking deeper.
Wrapped in warmth.
In stillness.
In peace.
Sleep is here now.
And we are safe.
We are held.
